Anellophotonics

Navigation Engineer, Simulation (Summer Intern-Masters)

Santa Clara, CA Full Time

About ANELLO:

ANELLO http://www.anellophotonics.com is a leading-edge technology company that has developed integrated photonic system-on-chip technology for next generation navigation devices. ANELLO's SIPHOG™ gyroscope is based on its patented photonic integrated circuit technology. Our devices are higher performance, much smaller in size, weight, and power at a fraction of the cost of traditional gyros used in industrial-grade, aerospace, and military applications. ANELLO products provide reliable, and precision navigation and positioning across all autonomous applications in GPS-Denied environments. ANELLO has a growing list of customers developing unmanned aerial, marine, and land vehicles, as well as many other applications within commercial, defense and national security segments.

Description:

ANELLO is seeking a Masters-level summer intern to help develop and utilize MATLAB for developing simulations to model system dynamics, sensors (IMU, GPS, etc.), and test algorithm performance in various customer scenarios. This role would work closely with our algorithm team to simulate the ability to test and push the incredible limits of our gyroscope technology for autonomous vehicles in GPS-denied environments.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement navigation and control algorithms for autonomous platforms (e.g., UAVs, USVs, UUVs, Robotics).
  • Perform sensor fusion using techniques like Extended Kalman Filters (EKF) to combine data from IMU, GPS, and other sensors for accurate pose (position and orientation) estimation and localization.
  • Analyze and validate algorithms using real-world or synthetic data, including noise modeling and calibration of IMU measurements.
  • Collaborate with embedded systems and algorithm teams to ensure compatibility and facilitate the deployment of algorithms to target hardware.
  • Create proof of concepts and test environments to validate new algorithms.
  • Sensor Fusion & Modeling: Model inertial sensors (IMU, GNSS), calibrate measurements using Allan variance, and fuse raw sensor data for accurate pose estimation in GPS-denied environments.
  • Simulation & Testing: Create simulation environments for unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) system testing.
  • Code Generation: Utilize MATLAB Coder and Simulink Coder to deploy algorithms to embedded hardware.

Skills and Qualifications:

(not all skills are necessary to apply)

  • Working toward an MS Degree in Aerospace, EE, ME, Physics, or related field
  • Strong experience in developing simulation models and analyzing data.
  • Solid understanding of inertial navigation, GNC systems, dynamics, and estimation techniques.
  • Experience with Navigation Toolbox, Automated Driving Toolbox, or similar.
  • Possess a solid foundation of programming experience in Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Python, or other languages. Knowledge of revision control tools (Git, Bitbucket).
  • Linux, hardware-in-the-loops simulation architectures, and/or GPS simulators
  • Sensor fusion and state estimation techniques (eg. Kalman or Particle Filters)
  • Understanding of terrestrial navigation, SAASM, M-Code, and GPS-denied operations
  • GNC applications of flight vehicles, guided munitions, and/or UAS systems

Additional information:

  • This role could also apply to early career/new grads, as it could lead to perm employment offer.
  • Due to contracts ANELLO works under affiliated with U.S. government, applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship. (U.S. Citizens  or Perm Residents)
  • If you're excited to work on cutting-edge navigation systems and enjoy both technical deep dives and hands-on problem solving, we’d love to hear from you!
