What we are looking for:
As the Forest Roads Unit Coordinator you will act as the unit’s primary contract administrator and will assist the District Forest Roads Supervisor with planning, coordinating, and reviewing work of the Road Specialists to meet unit goals, and State Forest Division goals that contribute to the Oregon Department of Forestry mission. Duties include:
- Participates in developing district wide plans for Annual Operation Plans including long- and short-range planning for transportation systems, rock quarries, road maintenance operations and access needs.
- Coordinates, monitors, and schedules road crew maintenance work.
- Coordinates, monitors, and schedules annual bridge inspection and bridge maintenance contracts.
- Reviews, monitors, and coordinates project work cost estimating and write-up for timber sales.
- Assists Forest Roads Unit Manager with training and development of unit staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience in Forestry and a Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Engineering or equivalent, or three additional years of related (pertinent - Forest engineering) experience
OR
One year of experience in Forestry and a Masters degree in Forest Engineering or equivalent.
Note: Driver’s License Check - This position requires the operation of a state vehicle for the purpose of conducting official State business. If your license is from outside Oregon, you must submit at least a three-year court/DMV printout. If you have an Oregon driver’s license, a record check will be conducted on the top candidate to ensure a valid license and acceptable driving record.
Desired Skills:
- This position requires specialized education and training in forest road design, road maintenance, and contract administration to accomplish standard tasks.
- Ability to function as a coordinator responsible for working in an efficient and effective manner to meet goals and objectives in the District in accordance with Departmental rules, policies and directives; Forest Laws; ODF Roads Manual; and District plans.
- Sound knowledge of road construction methods and construction equipment.
- Ability to recognize and correct environmental problems.
- Ability to maintain proper working relationships with contractors.
