Purpose of Role:

Weir Marine Engineering has a requirement for a MS Power Platform and SharePoint Specialist to assist our clients in the Department of National Defence (DND) in advancing their Digital Transformation efforts by innovating, integrating, and accelerating advanced solutions that enhance operational readiness, strengthen decision-making, and empower command for the challenges of tomorrow.

The focus of the work will be on assisting our client with advancing the use of MS Power Platform, MS Power Apps and SharePoint Online solutions within the Department, digitalizing business processes and improving workflows, and automating and securing the records management lifecycle.  It will involve designing, configuring and securing SharePoint collections as well as libraries and lists.  Delivery of MS Power Platform and SharePoint training and coaching to DND users will be required.

This challenging position involves working closely with our DND clients, with an expectation of some work being performed onsite in Ottawa and the rest of the work performed remotely (telework).  Infrequent travel may be required. The activity has initial funding to 31 March 2027, but it is expected that the work will be renewed for subsequent periods.  Although this opportunity is aimed at a consultant/contractor, an employment arrangement could also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • MS Power Platform, MS Power Apps: Advise on and assist with the use of MS Power Platform and MS Power Apps, design and develop solutions to digitalize processes, integrate MS Power Apps with SharePoint Online.
  • SharePoint: Advise on and assist with the use of SharePoint and SharePoint Online, design and configure libraries, lists and content types, and identify security requirements and solutions.
  • Support and Training: Deliver onboarding and coaching sessions, develop job aids and other training material, provide user support and technical support for MS Power Platform tools and SharePoint.
  • Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.


Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • More than ten years of experience developing and implementing digital solutions for large enterprise or government, with at least five years of experience implementing solutions employing Microsoft (MS) tools and services.

  • Technical knowledge areas expected:

    • Advanced knowledge of MS Power Platform, MS Power Apps and SharePoint Online is required;

    • Strong knowledge of AWS and Azure is an asset;

    • Experience with MS Power BI, with SAP and SAP tools such as Business Objects (BOBJ), Business Warehouse (BW) and Business Explorer (BEx) would be an asset; and
      SAP certification would be an asset.

  • General knowledge areas expected:

    • Digital transformation in large organizations;

    • Experience with data analytics and data models;

    • Experience coaching and training others;

    • Conducting workshops with stakeholders to identify and document requirements and proposed solutions; and

    • Experience with the DND/CAF and/or in the defence industry would be an asset.

  • Soft skills:

    • Dynamic person with the ability to work under pressure on a large, complex, long term project;

    • Good at listening, guiding and mentoring;

    • Fast learner who can absorb and understand the requirements, project landscape and current processes, and apply knowledge of technologies to identify high-impact digital solutions;

    • Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written); and

    • Motivated and takes pride in their work.

  • Canadian citizenship, with 10 or more years residing in Canada with no periods longer than six continuous months out of country, is absolutely necessary as part of the requirements to obtain a government security clearance to the minimum level of Secret.
