Job Description

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite.  This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC five days per week.

The Role

The Motorsports Chief Engineer for the Chevrolet NASCAR program leads the technical vision, development, and execution of Chevrolet’s competitive engineering strategy in NASCAR’s top-tier series. This role is responsible for delivering race-winning performance through advanced vehicle systems integration, data-driven development, and close collaboration with race teams, sanctioning bodies, technical partners, and internal engineering groups.

What You’ll Do

  • Technical Leadership:

    • Define and drive the engineering roadmap for the Chevrolet NASCAR platform.

    • Lead cross-functional teams in aerodynamics, powertrain, chassis, simulation, and electronics.

    • Ensure compliance with NASCAR regulations while maximizing competitive advantage.

  • Program Management:

    • Oversee all phases of vehicle development, from concept to track validation.

    • Manage technical deliverables, timelines, and budgets.

    • Coordinate with Chevrolet Motorsports leadership and external stakeholders.

    • Lead the NASCAR Program Management Group, Cup, Trick and NXS

  • Innovation & Development:

    • Champion the use of simulation, CFD, and data analytics to optimize vehicle performance.

    • Integrate emerging technologies and materials to enhance reliability and speed.

    • Lead continuous improvement initiatives based on race data and team feedback.

  • Team & Partner Collaboration:

    • Serve as the primary technical liaison between Chevrolet and NASCAR race teams and sanctioning body.

    • Collaborate with OEM partners, suppliers, and sanctioning bodies.

    • Represent Chevrolet in technical working groups and competition meetings.

  • Travel Requirements:

    • Frequent travel to race events, team facilities, wind tunnel tests, and technical meetings (approximately 30–40% annually).

    • Weekend and extended travel may be required during the race season and for key development milestones.

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

  • 15+ years of motorsports engineering experience, in NASCAR at a leadership level.

  • Proven leadership in vehicle development and race engineering.

  • Deep understanding of NASCAR technical regulations and competition dynamics.

  • Expertise in simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, CFD, FEA) and data acquisition systems.

  • Strong communication and project management skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, or related field.

  • Experience working directly with race teams and drivers.

  • Familiarity with Chevrolet vehicle platforms and engineering processes.

  • Passion for motorsports and performance engineering.
