The primary purpose of this position is: To operate one or more types of gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically having a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 26,000 to 32,000 pounds on public roads in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds to transport cargo. Also operates forklifts to facilitate cargo loading/unloading.

Major Duties:

  • Drives one or more types of heavy trucks, such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, trash/garbage trucks or durnp trucks, which are typically equipped with air brakes. Operates one or more electric, LPG, or diesel powered forklift trucks to facilitate loading and unloading duties. Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. Maintains records and documents actions, such as operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for theWG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth and possess knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered vehicles with a GVW of more than 26,000 and up to 32,000 pounds as well as skill in loading and arranging cargo properly onto the vehicle using appropriate tie-downs such as chains, binders, or straps for safe transit of cargo to prevent shifting, protect cargo, and mark dangerous or protruding cargo. IDEAL CANDIDATE: Drives one or more types of heavy trucks, such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, trash/garbage trucks or dump trucks, which are typically equipped with air brakes. May be required to operate passenger buses of varying sizes both on and off-base under varying weather conditions. Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles, and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation.
