Job Description

Position Overview:

This position’s main function is to lead all technicians and technical resources in both the mold shop, as well as mold installation. The mold lead’s responsibility spreads through mold maintenance, preparation and proper, efficient installation, start-up of the mold installation to deliver the final product to the operation’s team. These tasks are accomplished by the mold lead’s team, as well as the lead with personal hands-on work, and hands-off training of the teammates. The ultimate responsibility of mold related tasks and upkeep with fall on the mold lead.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Leads the mold shop team and Mold Installation teams – they will report through this position

  • Oversees, leads and plans general maintenance, shipping and spare inventory of molds in the machine and offline in the mold shop

  • Oversees and leads daily changeovers, from beginning to end ensuring proper installation and setup

  • Participates in pre-planning meetings and offers suggestion on best machine/mold combination as well as articulate status of mold condition  

  • Schedules team or self to troubleshoot existing mold-related problems during production runs

  • Acts as a trainer and mentor to new technicians that are tasked with mold installations – evaluating and reporting back on performance and proctors level training

  • Leads continual improvement training efforts, and strives for improved quality of tasks and reduction of task completion time both in the mold shop and installation

  • Assists production and quality teams with Root Cause Analysis for recurring defects caused by the physical mold, or mold installation

  • Understands, drives and monitors Quality and Food Safety data and metrics

  • Assists process development for new product – mold related

  • Analyzes and supports reduction of scrap through processing Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action – mold related

  • Drives optimization of cycle times through proper planning, testing and implementation of mold-based improvements

  • Responsible for safety, 5S, housekeeping and overall condition of the Mold Shop

  • Participates in optimization projects including 5S and SMED events

  • Creates work instructions for all responsible tasks

  • Takes feedback from process technicians to continue the mold change improvement process

  • Updates master mold records whether they are boards or computer-based files

  • Creates and updates SAP work orders as needed

  • Effectively communicates with all internal departments and external customers.

  • Ensures work areas are clean and general housekeeping duties are being performed

  • Understand and follow EHS policy and requirements specified in applicable EHS documents.

  • Performs all other tasks as directed

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

  • 3+ years’ experience in plastics manufacturing

  • Strong machine/mechanical knowledge

  • Strong mold maintenance background

  • Prior experience installing molds

  • Ability to work flexible hours and different shifts; including call-ins and weekends as needed to support production changeovers and startups

  • Working knowledge of PET carbonated/non-carbonated containers

  • Previous operating of PET machines required

  • Working knowledge of practical experience with Quality and Food Safety product specifications and controls methods

  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, make decisions and resolve conflicts

  • Experience working with multiple types of plastic materials

  • Basic knowledge of molds related to different platforms

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook and Excel required

  • Experience with SAP preferred

  • Travel less than 5%
