Middle School Restorative Specialist

District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter school serving over 1600 racially and economically diverse students in grades 6-12 from across the District of Columbia. DCI’s education centers on an International Baccalaureate curriculum, advanced language learning in Chinese, Spanish, and French, and a culture focused on student agency supported by 1:1 technology.

DCI is seeking a full-time Restorative Specialist. This role improves school climate by implementing restorative justice practices and fostering social-emotional learning. This position will work closely with each student in the school to support their growth and development and collaboratively problem-solve their issues and concerns using restorative methods.

Salary Range:  $23.75 - $32.33 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience) 

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred;
  • Demonstrated record of working effectively with at-risk adolescents.
  • Experience working restoratively with students with emotional and behavioral struggles.
  • Two years experience working with DC youth.
  • Ability to use multiple technology platforms to guide instruction and communicate with students and families and proficiency with communicating using G-Suite tools, including Gmail, is preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Clear a background check.

  • Supporting, teaching and maintaining a professional and restorative culture which treats students and staff with respect.
  • De-escalating students who are in crisis.
  • Investigating student issues and concerns.
  • Teaching and maintaining student expectations regarding electronics, etc.
  • Working closely with the Administrative team to ensure student accountability.
  • Conducts walkthroughs to ensure high visibility by circulating throughout classrooms and public spaces during the day to gain valuable context on student behavior and relentlessly ensuring a positive school environment. 
  • Ensures that school entry, breakfast, lunch, dismissal, and transitions are orderly, positive, and consistent with DCI’s mission and values.
  • Invests in building positive relationships between DCI and our parent-community.
  • Monitors student attendance, making follow-through calls to families and providing attendance interventions.
  • Focuses on students with behavior or development challenges; partners with teachers to provide extra interventions.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong and professional communication with students, teachers, parents and family members.
  • Supporting the Director of Student Experience with behavior and intervention tracking, arrival, dismissal, various duty posts throughout the day. 
  • Embrace French, Spanish, and Chinese cultures by leading and participating in cultural activities for faculty and students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
