Middle Office Performance & Analytics - Senior Manager

State Street’s Investment Manager Services (IMS) division supports global asset managers with comprehensive middle-office solutions. As part of the dedicated Key Client Performance Team, the Manager will lead daily oversight, validation, and delivery of performance, attribution, and analytical outputs. The role requires strong analytical capabilities, deep understanding of investment performance methodologies, and the ability to manage complex client requirements in a fast-paced environment.

The candidate will be responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality performance reporting for multiple Client portfolios, partnering closely with global stakeholders including Portfolio Managers, Operations, Risk, and Technology teams.

Key Responsibilities

Performance & Attribution Oversight

  • Manage daily, weekly, and monthly performance calculations for multi-asset, fixed-income, and derivative-heavy Client portfolios.
  • Review time-weighted and money-weighted performance, benchmark construction, and contribution/attribution outputs.
  • Validate security-level and sector-level returns, explaining drivers and resolving anomalies.
  • Oversee composite performance, ensuring compliance with client methodology and market standards (e.g., GIPS principles).
  • Collaborate with data, pricing, and accounting teams to resolve breaks and ensure accuracy of underlying data.

Client Delivery & Reporting

  • Deliver performance reports and analytics packages to Client within strict SLA timelines.
  • Provide actionable insights to internal and external stakeholders, articulating causes of performance deviation, benchmark differences, or data quality issues.
  • Manage ad-hoc client queries, ensuring clear communication and timely resolution.

Governance, Controls & Quality

  • Maintain strong internal controls covering performance calculation, validation, and dissemination.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and performance break investigations; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with State Street policies, Client standards, and audit/regulatory requirements.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

  • Lead a team of analysts responsible for production and validation activities.
  • Provide coaching, training, and technical guidance; build skill depth within the team.
  • Act as the primary point of escalation for day-to-day performance issues.
  • Partner with global cross-functional teams including Investment Analytics, Fund Accounting, Pricing, and Technology.

Process Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify areas to automate and streamline via Alteryx, Python, Tableau, or equivalent tools.
  • Support transformation initiatives related to IMS model evolution, client change requests, system upgrades, or data enhancements.
  • Drive operational resilience and scalability through documentation, standardization, and workflow optimization.

Required Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • Graduate/Post-graduate in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • CFA Level II candidate (or equivalent) strongly preferred.

Experience

  • 6–9 years of experience in investment performance, analytics, middle-office, or portfolio reporting.
  • Experience supporting global asset managers (Knowledge of SMARTS & Picasso is an advantage)
  • Strong understanding of fixed-income instruments, derivatives, benchmarks, and performance methodologies.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in performance & attribution tools
  • Strong Excel skills; working knowledge of SQL, Power BI Python, or automation tools a plus.
  • Familiarity with large data sets, data integrity checks, and operational risk controls.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines with high attention to detail.
  • Leadership mindset with the ability to guide and motivate teams.
