The Manager, Access Services, is responsible for the unit functions related to registration, patient flow, ensuring all encounters are financially cleared, and ensure authorization and notification of admission timeframes are me. Understanding of accurate and expeditious registration encounter is critical including the regulatory requirements driving expectation. The manager must have strong system skill to troubleshoot issues; recommend workflow efficiency using technology. Manager must be able to lead, inspire and coach a high-functioning team to ensure strong revenue cycle principles are being followed are Patient Access is compliant.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop policy and procedure; training manuals and resources to ensure staff are educated and have available material needed to be successful; ensuring standardization across AMHS of similar functions and unit processes.
  • Ability to measure and improve team performance based on best practice revenue cycle key performance indicators
  • Ability to manage vacancies and shortage of staff without compromising financial status of receivable.
  • Ensure patient flow is optimal – ensuring registration times are below 5 minutes
  • Interacts frequently with key stakeholders to ensure the associate positions are supporting operations where and as needed.
  • Ensure all patients and encounters are financially cleared; assuring compliance with Inpatient and Outpatient service regulations including but not limited to: MSPQ, Medical Necessity, Notification of Admission, Authorization Guidelines.
  • Provide guidance in the review, interview scheduling of new hires; conduct interviews and ensure Retain, Recruit, Retain is supported and maintained.
  • Ensure productivity and key performance indicators are met with assurance all Epic Workques are worked in a timely manner as to not delay billing.
  • Manages all aspects of human resource management - hiring, firing and staff development, including but not limited to orientation, position understanding and training, ongoing skill enhancements, counseling to improvement, corrective action and termination
  • Ensure quality and workflow audits are completed and results are trended for staff education and remediation
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirement including but not limited to CMS, Joint Commission, EMTALA, Registration and Billing requirements
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with all levels of the organization through compromise, seeking to find solutions and understanding all perspectives to effectively problem solve.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree - required
  • 5 – 7 years Hospital Billing and Registration experience - required
  • Strong knowledge of Billing and Registration regulatory requirements
  • Management experience; Demonstrated Leadership success
  • Understanding of revenue cycle best practice principles – Inpatient and Outpatient services
  • Ability to analyze; trend and track revenue cycle issues impeding ability to bill a clean claim; receive no denial
  • Excellent proficiency in spreadsheets/EXCEL
  • Strong customer focus with eye on the optimal patient experience.
  • Knowledge Information Technology integration concepts; identification of system issues
  • Working knowledge of healthcare systems integration
  • Understanding of ICD-10; diagnosis and procedural; CPT coding
  • Policy and Procedure development; Training Resource development of the adult learner
  • Ability to ‘think on feet’ for solution to operational issues impacting patient flow
  • Organize methodical and strong time management skill
  • Demonstrated success of managing a high-functioning team
  • Understanding of Federal, State, EMTALA, Joint Commission, Medicare and Medicaid regulations
  • Excellent verbal and written skills with strong presentation skill
  • CHAM - Certified Healthcare Access Manager acquired within 2 years of hire - required
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
