How you’ll help us make health happen

  • Underwrite new individual business and group business within authority levels, adhering to the company’s underwriting rules and guidelines.
  • Evaluate application and supplementary medical reports in English or Chinese (Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese), determine medical insurance risks according to business rules, tools and guidelines to provide underwriting outcome include personal medica loadings and/or personal medical exclusions.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in the underwriting process and decision making.
  • Manage and prioritize daily activities with minimal supervision, seeking assistance or input when needed, while meeting departmental objectives and deadlines.
  • Escalate cases to Underwriting Manager / Underwriting Governance Team based on the set of criteria. 
  • Handle underwriting queries raised by internal teams, liaise between departments to provide technical support relating to underwriting.
  • Review requests for renewal business include upgrade, re-evaluation, change of products, strike balance between retention and P/L.
  • Navigate multiple systems concurrently to retrieve medical info. to make judgment.
  • Attend coaching session, upskills / refresh training to gain and expand knowledge as well as stay informed on the most updated processes.

Key Skills/Qualifications needed for this role:

  • Substantial experience of working in a customer service role in the financial services sector
  • Bachelor degree holder or above in a relevant scientific or healthcare discipline such as medicine, nursing, biomedical science, pharmacology.
  • Stronge advantage - Relevant experience in medical underwriting. Ideal – Obtain license from Hong Kong Insurance Authority (HKIA) by taking IIQE Paper I and II. Your academic qualification must meet the requirement from HKIA, and complete required CPD hours recognised by HKIA to maintain/renew a valid individual insurance agent license with HKIA.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and common clinical conditions.
  • For candidates with less or no underwriting experience, a strong willingness to learn, absorb knowledge about medical terminology and underwriting skills will be considered.
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, customer-focused and deadline-driven office environment.
  • Capable of managing real-time underwriting, questioning and evaluating information when received, entering data into the system and evaluating risk promptly.
  • Good time management, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Understanding of diverse cultures as you are dealing with applications from international customers.
