Summary of Job Duties:

The Laboratory and Pathology Service Line Medical Laboratory Scientist III is responsible for a broad range of activities that are critical in the functioning of the Service Line and Microbiology Laboratory. The objective of this position is to assist the Microbiology Supervisor to ensure day-to-day operations go smoothly and that information enhances integration and communication. The position requires a wide degree of judgement to successfully enact its duties.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Biology, or Chemistry
  • 3 or more years of clinical laboratory experience
  • ASCP or equivalent Generalist or Microbiology certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology
  • Five years of Microbiology Laboratory experience.
  • ASCP Specialty in Microbiology certification
  • Experience with LIS systems, Microsoft Office programs, inventory control, CAP requirements.  Experience with pulling data and creating reports.

Job Requirements:

  • Function as a lead technologist and assist the Microbiology Supervisor to ensure that lab staff performing testing procedures follow all approved policies and procedures.
  • Organize and prioritize work load and work independently.  
  • Demonstrates technical expertise on various Microbiology processes such as the ability to make critical decisions about results, QC and maintenance issues.
  • Provides departmental support and performs additional duties or projects as assigned to assist their supervisor.
  • Responsible for processing, evaluating patient specimens, performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures and perform susceptibilities.
  • Record and evaluate daily, weekly, and monthly QC in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor.  
  • Maintain safe work practices, follow all regulatory requirements, be familiar with all procedures in the department and engage supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
