Job Description:

The Medical Lab Scientist will perform highly complex laboratory procedures and perform analytical testing according to policies, procedures, and federal regulations including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Evaluating results for accuracy and resolving complex test problems.
  • Recognizing, communicating and documenting results that require action.
  • Performing and documenting routine and advanced instrument maintenance and quality control; taking appropriate remedial action and ensuring appropriate record keeping and retention.
  • Serving as Charge Tech in absence of the Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely collection and processing of specimens.
  • Verifying of correct patient identification and instructing customers on collection procedures and protocols.
  • Identifying and using appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture).
  • Collecting samples, labelling specimens and evaluating specimen acceptability.
  • Providing customer service and patient order management, including evaluation of patient orders for completeness and follow up as needed.
  • Ensuring adherence to regulatory and billing requirements.
  • Perform scheduling, ordering and releasing of patient orders in the electronic medical record.
  • Performing in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) to ensure quality laboratory testing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in medical technology or medical laboratory technology/science or related field
  • 5 years related (progressive, postbaccalaureate) medical laboratory scientist/technologist experience.
  • 24 months of experience evaluating results for accuracy, resolving complex test problems and recognizing, communicating and documenting results that require action.
  • 24 months of experience performing and documenting routine and advanced instrument maintenance and quality control; taking appropriate remedial action and ensuring appropriate record keeping and retention.
  • 24 months of experience identifying and using appropriate collection method to obtain samples for testing (venipuncture or capillary puncture).
  • 24 months of experience collecting samples, labelling specimens and evaluating specimen acceptability.
  • Employer will accept experience gained concurrently.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Must be certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP or AMT).

  • Lifting weight up to 20 lbs. occasionally, up to 10 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $34.24 to $46.93 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
