MEDICAL DIRECTOR - SINGAPORE
Office based role responsible in leading a high performing Medical Affairs team that prioritizes according to company strategy and organizational impact with deep understanding of the local healthcare system, its priorities, and challenges. Ensure excellence in the development and execution of the Medical Affairs Plans composed of confidence and evidence generation activities, as well as fundamental and sustainable clinical practice transformations that strengthen healthcare ecosystems, improve treatment outcomes, and enable access to quality patient care in alignment with the company’s portfolio.
Recognize and leverages innovation wherever appropriate to drive strategic and sustainable impact internally and externally. Lead the team to identify, activate and measure scalable healthcare practice shaping initiatives with integrated partnership engagement plans composed of key traditional (e.g. HCPs) and non-traditional (e.g. policy and decision makers, PAGs, government, innovative solution providers) stakeholders.
Drive operational effectiveness, impact, and efficiencies of Medical Affairs Team(s) through measurable outcomes and a continuous improvement approach. Communicate on the quality delivery and value of the Medical Affairs team(s) with good understanding of the internal business ecosystem (strategy, model, finances).
A Country Leadership Team (CLT) member who is accountable for the strategic direction, business/resource planning, and team leadership of a small to medium sized Medical Affairs function within a country. Directs and supports this function to assure operational effectiveness and efficiencies through a continuous improvement approach. Accountable for the typical HR activities of a function head. May also be a senior individual contributor within a specific area of Medical Affairs - e.g. Compliance, medical excellence, pharmaco-economics, where impact and decision making will typically influence the commercial organisation on a regional or a global level. Acts as the Good Clinical Practice Quality Lead for the country.

What you’ll do
Supports the implementation of the overall national strategy for a small to medium sized Medical Affairs function that will maximise the business performance of the country
Provides expert advice and support to ensure the effectiveness of the Medical Affairs Function, and carry out improvement initiatives on quality, cost and time
May lead or support major projects and improvement initiatives
Develops knowledge of global issues and ensures these are incorporated into the Medical Affairs strategy
Oversees or manages large brand medic or therapy area projects ensuring adherence to processes and regulations
Manages the development of the management team in own function
Carries out effective succession planning and supports the development of a talent pipeline for the Medical Affairs function
Supports operational implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS) within the GxP areas to meet obligations of license to operate
Strengthens Medical capabilities, including field-based medical support, medical information, medical compliance, diagnostics, medical affairs strategy and plans with support from the Asia Area or International regional medical team.
Medical Strategy
Accountable to ensure appropriate resources and set up of the local Medical Affairs function that enables the delivery of the strategic Medical Affairs and Company plans with maximum impact and effectiveness with support from the Asia Area or International regional medical team.
Accountable for the strategic direction, business planning, and team leadership of a small to medium sized Medical Affairs function.
Leads the local Medical Affairs organization as part of the country senior leadership team and represents the local company externally on the topic of science and healthcare.
Manages and lead change initiatives and challenge current thinking and assumptions within organisations and collaborate with cross-functional teams and across organisations at various levels.
The position may also be a senior individual contributor within a specific area of Medical Affairs - e.g. Compliance, medical excellence, pharmaco-economics, where impact and decision making will typically influence the commercial organisation on a regional or a global level.
Team Leader
Manages the team(s) and coach for performance with purpose and/or holding team accountable for delivery, effectively and timely according to plan in prioritized areas that will drive the greatest impact.
Drives performance with impact-focused goals that drive measurable outcomes, and continuously validated & improved strategies through data-driven insights.
Manages the medical affairs team(s) and drives a collaborative and patient centric culture with an innovative mindset that focuses on impact.
Accountable for the typical HR activities of a function head including people development, talent management and succession plans.
External engagements
Knowledgeable of global and local healthcare ecosystem, its priorities, challenges, opportunities, and issues.
Ensures scalable and sustainable strategic solutions are incorporated and prioritized into the Medical Affairs strategic plans to strengthen healthcare ecosystems, improve treatment outcomes.
Support to establish collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. HCPs, payers, policy makers, regulatory bodies, PAGs) to drive consensus and successfully advocate for policy changes to improve access to quality patient care.
Medical Governance Oversight
Conduct activities and interactions consistent with Company values and in compliance with the Code of Ethics.
Ensure and monitor compliance by team members and third parties by
(a) positively reinforcing the Code of Ethics and all relevant AstraZeneca Policies and Standards,
(b) ensuring completion of all required training.
(c) fostering a culture of openness in which employees are comfortable raising questions or concerns, and
{d) immediately addressing and reporting, as appropriate, instances of non-compliance.
Leaders with accountability for GXP areas are expected to understand the legal and regulatory requirements of their roles in providing appropriate resources {which could be human, financial, material, facilities, and equipment) to maintain the Quality system and continually improve its effectiveness.
Essential for the role
Qualified Doctor
Extensive experience of Medical Affairs function within a pharmaceutical industry
Extensive experience in relationship and stakeholder management
Project management experience
Extensive team management experience
Desirable for the role
Doctoral degree in a scientific discipline (e.g. M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D.)
Extensive knowledge of the latest technical and regulatory developments
Innovative and solution-oriented mindset
Ecosystem scaled project experience.
Experience with research, drug discovery, drug development and drug lifecycle management.
