Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Mechanical Assembler based out of Elkridge, MD.

The Mechanical Assembler uses electronic components, mechanical parts, drawings and engineering documentation, tools, and manufacturing processes to build and/or repair units such as circuit card assemblies, cable assemblies and wire harnesses, modules, and cabinet assemblies.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Obtain all necessary information to perform job assignments and report discrepancies or issues to appropriate personnel

  • Plan, lay out, assemble, wire, solder, repair, and maintain electrical/electronic, mechanical, antenna, and trailer systems

  • Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and engineering drawings to perform point-to-point assembly

  • Assemble and disassemble production or prototype assemblies and subassemblies according to manufacturing, engineering, and quality specifications

  • Perform wiring using harness boards, tie-in cables, and harnesses; install mechanical parts, components, and fasteners as specified

  • Perform circuit card assembly, repair, and soldering of components, including large masses of wires in confined spaces

  • Modify, rework, troubleshoot, and reassemble assemblies/subassemblies as directed by a Cognizant Engineer or other authorized personnel

  • Conduct peer inspections and verify product conformance in accordance with manufacturing, engineering, and quality requirements

  • Mix and apply bonding compounds, encapsulates, conformal coatings, paints, epoxies, and other finishing materials as required

  • Use and operate a broad range of hand tools, power tools, jigs, saws, assembly equipment, test equipment, and safety equipment

  • Understand the function and use of a broad range of electrical/electronic and mechanical parts and components such as brackets, solder, wire, resistors, diodes, capacitors, relays, transformers, switches, PC boards, and epoxies

  • Perform field work and support installations, maintenance, or repairs in adverse conditions for short periods of time

  • Work in tight spaces, at heights, and in physically demanding environments while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and uncompromised quality

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or recognized equivalent (GED) with 4 years of experience in a manufacturing environment performing mechanical assembly and/or Circuit Card assembly

  • Experience reading and working from schematics and drawings to make initial layouts 

  • Experience utilizing a broad range of hand tools, assembly equipment and safety equipment to perform tasks

  • Experience and ability to successfully complete basic solder certification, visual acuity test and in-house skills training

  • Experience working in tight spaces that require a high level of attention to detail and uncompromised quality

  • Experience and ability to climb ladders and work at heights

  • Experience lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50lbs

  • Ability and willingness to work in adverse conditions

  • Experience and willingness to work overtime, evenings, and weekends when required to meet program deadlines

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Level Security Clearance is required

  • U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • AA Degree

  • IPC 620 Cable/Wire Harness Assemblies

  • SAP or other ERP/MRP System experience 

  • Forklift and crane experience

  • Cable management experience

  • Active U.S. Government Secret Level Security Clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $50,882.00 - $121,755.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
