Job Summary: This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Special Functions Unit. Seeks a reliable Materials Handler Leader for leading a team in assigning and reviewing the work of subordinates and solving problems related to the work performed by the unit. The incumbent also performs nonsupervisory tasks in support of the unit’s mission.

Major Duties:

  • The tours of duty for this position is 1st Shift (day) Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 2nd Shift (evening) 11:a.m. to 7:30 p.m. selectees must be able to work both shift if selected. This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. The Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends. The individual selected for this position will: Leader Duties: Serves as working leader of three (3) or more employees in receiving, storing and delivering a diverse range of construction products and other materials. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Ensures that each employee has a full workload. Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, quality and deadlines. Provides information to supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays and overall work operations and problems (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). Materials Handler Duties: Independently determines loading and unloading sequences to maximize space utilization. Moves construction materials from dock to bin and from storage to shipping. Drives to deliver materials to various locations on capitol hill complex. Verifies receipt of documents and indicates the quality and quantity of items received. Places inventory stickers on material, updates inventory records and maintains an accurate inventory of on-hand and issued stock. Operates hand truck, pallet jacks, dollies and other material handling equipment to deliver stock to storage areas, warehouse facilities or job sites. Operates a fork-lift truck with a load capacity of less than 10,000 pounds and a height capacity of 168 inches. Controls stock movement, being careful to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of supplies and materials. Delivers & sets up tables, chairs, podiums, easels, trash trucks, trash cans, partitions, risers & ice. Provides support when needed to Day Labor & Custodians on moves and/or assignments. Setting up & breaking down of committee rooms based on the needs of the clients. Ensure rooms are set to client specifications in a timely manner, set-ups and/or add-ons are address in a timely manner, often in the spur of the moment within given timeframe. Responsible for cleanings & vacuuming rooms after add-ons are conducted, as well as breaking down to set area for the next event. Performs other duties as assigned.
