Job Summary: About the Position: This position is located within Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA Directorate of Resource Management (Material Management).

Major Duties:

  • Receive supplies through computer input, stocks carousel bins, and makes necessary computer modifications.
  • Inventory carts located on clinics and wards throughout the hospital, through use of a hand-held computer.
  • Stage empty transport carts for loading supplies.
  • Move transport cart to Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) loading area for delivery to material handling rooms.
  • Receive and return exchange or all-purpose modules delivered by the AGV from the material handling room and delivers to designated locations.
  • Perform all housekeeping functions in all material handling lifts, General Stores and AGV Distribution Systems areas and all related areas.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Materials Handler ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Materials Handler duties such as organizing, arranging, and removing stock; I am skilled in receiving, storing, and issuing materials and equipment; and using dollies and hand jacks used in warehousing tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work requires carrying supplies weighing approximately 40 pounds when placing bundles for delivery and pushing heavy carts frequently weighing in excess of 600 pounds for extended distances and up a moderate incline. Works on hard surfaces and in areas that require continuous prolonged standing and walking for routine operations, bending, stooping, lifting, kneeling, and stair climbing. WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent usually works in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Also, work may be performed in areas of hot or cold depending on the season and at times may be exposed to the elements. This area at times can be extremely noisy due to buzzers and noise from the module processor units close to the dispatch areas. The position requires rotating shits. Shifts are 06:00AM-2:30PM, or 2:00PM-10:30PM, or 10:30PM-06:30AM.
