Inside the Role
The Materials and Process Technology Materials Engineer is part of a dynamic technical team under the Global Materials and Process Technology department aimed at pushing the limits of materials and chemical technology. The MPT Materials Engineer is responsible for providing full material analysis and process expertise throughout the product lifecycle of traditional and advanced drivetrain components such as internal combustion drivetrains, lithium-ion batteries, and electric motors. The MPT Materials Engineer supports internal business partners such as; R&D design and development, Supplier Management, Manufacturing Engineering, R&D prototype and component testing, and Quality Management, from ideation through end of life to ensure Daimler and industry requirements are fulfilled.Posting Information

Position offers a starting salary range of $90,000 – $115,000 USD
Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA
Identify emerging technological developments in the world of materials, materials characterization, and material processing and implement at Daimler Truck or our external partners where applicable.
Provide material and materials process expertise for internal and external partners to solve process development, component development, and reliability concerns.
Demonstrated expertise in standard materials laboratory practices such as sample preparation, metallography, materials characterization, and mechanical property testing.
Determine equipment and analysis required to understand when material demands are met.
Perform material process analyses, such as slurry mixing, material joining, heat treatment, casting, and forging, of internal and external partners to ensure adherence to internal and external standards, and/or solve development or reliability concerns.
Interpret material specifications and requirements as they apply to Daimler Truck powertrain components.
Identify opportunities and drive improvements for both internal and external partners.
Utilize industry standard problem-solving methodologies (8D, Shainin, or Six Sigma) to fix concerns for internal and external partners.
Value global collaboration and encourage global colleagues to engage in knowledge sharing across multiple regions and business units.
Recognizes cultural differences in a global environment and effectively collaborates within this diverse environment.
Must have the ability to effectively communicate detailed technical facts and concepts through both written and verbal communication with global internal and external partners.
Knowledge You Should Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science Engineering, Metallurgy, or related field
Minimum 1 year of experience with ferrous, copper, or aluminum alloys and their processing techniques
Minimum 1 year of Experience with Scanning Electron Microscopy or other advanced microscopy techniques
Minimum 1 year of experience using Optical Microscopy
Minimum 1 year of experience in Non-Destructive Testing techniques (MPI, Dye penetrant, radiography, etc.)
Exceptional Candidates Might Have
Master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science or related fields
Experience with X-ray Computed Tomography in either quality assurance or failure analysis fields.
Experience with advanced material and chemical characterization techniques
Experience with elastomeric materials and their processing.
Experience with composite or engineering plastic materials and their processing
Experience with automotive PPAP.
Experience with failure analysis methodologies
