Job Summary: You will serve as a MATERIALS ENGINEER in the Materials Engineering Department and MRO Engineering Group of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST. The incumbent serves as a senior level materials engineer who provides advanced technical services, training, analysis, and project leadership to engineering organizations, maintenance and industrial shops, and fleet support teams, which support the overhaul and operations of Navy/Marine aircraft.

Major Duties:

  • You will manage and technically direct materials engineering processes and resources.
  • You will plan, lead, coordinate, and conduct advanced materials engineering work which requires planning and developing in several phases, each involving the development/origination of modified or new technical approach/solutions.
  • You will serve as a technical lead and performs extensive and varied combinations of duties associated with the most complex systems.
  • You will lead a team of individuals to identify, plan, evaluate and prescribe corrective action for material deficiencies/incidents reported through appropriate reporting systems.
  • You will lead and coordinate the technical research of serious and complex materials engineering issues, which usually require many technical fields and engineering/scientific disciplines.
  • You will provide technical professional expertise and oversight to ensure the latest advancement in materials engineering technology is considered and implemented in work planning.
  • You will be responsible for leading the engineering effort for all technical matters under their cognizance, devising the engineering approach, and implementing projects necessary to maintain integrity and ensure safety of flight.
  • You will apply experimental theories and/or new applications or developments to extend or modify theories, concepts, and assumptions, resolve unique or novel problems, conditions, or issues.

Qualifications: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Demonstrating the ability to serve as a Materials Engineer Subject Matter Expert for materials and industrial processes in an aerospace production setting; 2) Supporting in-service engineering on complex aerospace systems as a Materials Engineering Subject Matter Expert; 3) Serving as a Materials Engineering Subject Matter Expert supporting Command Quality requirements and ensuring compliance; and 4) Developing, implementing and managing Laboratory Quality Management System requirements and processes (e.g., identifying quality issues and initiating correction actions for resolution, conducting training to engineering staff, management and maintenance of laboratory engineering directives and standard operating procedures, and supporting/leading internal audits of laboratory processes to ensure quality system compliance).
