About Us
Maybell Quantum is redefining the future of computing. As a venture-backed quantum hardware innovator experiencing rapid growth, we're building technology that will transform industries for decades to come. Quantum computers will be as transformative to the next 30 years as the internet was to the last 30. Our team is creating the hardware foundation to make this revolution possible.
We’re seeking a Materials & Process Engineer with strong expertise in cryogenic hardware or high-reliability interconnect systems. You understand how materials, surface treatments, and joining methods impact electrical, mechanical, and low-temperature performance. You have industrialized materials-driven processes from prototype to production with a focus on reliability and repeatability. In this role, you will define robust materials and process standards for scalable cryogenic wiring at Maybell.
Key Responsibilities
- Materials & Process Development
- Define material selection strategies for cryogenic wiring, including conductors, dielectrics, shielding, and thermal interface materials
- Develop and optimize processes for cable fabrication, connectorization, bonding, soldering, crimping, and thermal anchoring
- Evaluate material compatibility at cryogenic temperatures (thermal contraction, conductivity, mechanical stability)
- Lead material qualification, validation testing, and reliability assessments
- Industrialization & Production Support
- Transition materials and fabrication methods from prototype to production-ready workflows
- Standardize manufacturing processes and define critical process parameters
- Implement process control methodologies to ensure repeatability and yield
- Drive cost reduction and cycle-time improvement through material and process optimization
- Lead root-cause investigations related to material failures, degradation, or process variability
- Cross-Functional Technical Collaboration
- Partner with RF, quantum, and mechanical teams to align material choices with system-level performance requirements
- Contribute to next-generation cryogenic wiring and interconnect architecture from a materials perspective
- Define reliability and lifetime requirements under thermal cycling and cryogenic operation
- Provide technical guidance to technicians and engineers on materials handling and process best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or related field
- 7+ years experience in materials engineering, process engineering, or hardware manufacturing
- Strong experience with cryogenic systems, high-reliability interconnects, or advanced materials in demanding environments
- Experience industrializing complex hardware from prototype to production
- Understanding of thermal expansion, conductivity, surface treatments, and joining methods for low-temperature applications
- Experience with failure analysis, materials characterization, and process validation
- Proven track record of process development and optimization
- Experience implementing structured process methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, etc.)
- Strong documentation and project management skills
