We are thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a Material Planner Intern to join our Material Operations & Strategy team at our Reston, VA office! This role offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in supporting material acquisition plans for multiple programs within the Leidos Digital Modernization and Intelligence Sectors.
As a Material Planner Intern, you will play a key role in ensuring the seamless execution of material requirements and acquisition plans from start to finish. You will collaborate closely with program teams to generate material requirements and provide comprehensive support throughout the procurement process.
In this role, you will interface with various stakeholders, including vendors, logistics teams, receiving departments, materials management, and strategic sourcing, to ensure program milestones are achieved on time and with precision. This position is ideal for someone eager to develop their skills in supply chain management, procurement, and strategic planning within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Primary Responsibilities
Collaborates with the Program team to ensure a seamless and efficient procurement process for materials aligned with program requirements.
Partners with program teams to generate material requirements and provides end-to-end support for acquisition plans, from initial planning to final delivery.
Monitors and maintains reports on material movement throughout manufacturing and inventory processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
Coordinates forecasts, workload prioritization, expediting, and acquisition strategies in partnership with commodity/category team leadership.
Advises program teams on optimal materials management and sourcing strategies to maximize program benefits and outcomes.
Places orders using purchasing cards within established spend thresholds and limits, ensuring compliance with procurement policies.
Analyzes material requirements to identify leveraging opportunities, recommend suppliers, and develop acquisition plans that align with program goals.
Engages with the supply chain, from vendors to manufacturing teams, to determine and implement optimal acquisition strategies.
Manages production schedules and delivery timelines to ensure on-time fulfillment of program needs.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience, with 0+ years of relevant work experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
Intermediate proficiency in Excel, including experience with Pivot Tables, Charts, VLOOKUP functions, and Bar Charts.
US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in procurement or buying roles, with a focus on materials acquisition.
Background in Supply Chain Management, including planning, logistics, and vendor coordination.
Familiarity with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems and processes.
Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) requirements, particularly regarding price and source justification for purchasing card orders.
Proven experience or strong interest in data analytics, including building business intelligence dashboards and leveraging insights for decision-making.
Exposure to IT project management, with the ability to support technology-driven initiatives.
