Job Description

Basic Function:

The Material Handler I is responsible for ensuring all daily outbound shipment requirements are completed timely and that all vital documentation is filled out accurately and completely to meet shipment requirements. 

Importance of This Position:

Successful performance of these job duties significantly impacts the timeliness and quality of customer shipments. The ability to reduce costs in scrap activities gives to the overall corporate cost-saving initiative.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the daily management of all outbound shipments to maintain timely deliveries to all destinations. 

  • Assists in the coordination of deliveries of material from outside warehouses.

  • Observe all LEAN and 5S initiatives and related procedures within the distribution environment

  • Should have the ability to prioritize daily work activities to ensure shipment requirements are aligned and accomplished.

  • Should effectively convey requirements to vendors, marketing, and customer service through both verbal and written communication.

  • Build good working relationships with suppliers and external departments.

Education and Experience:

  • One to two years of related training and/or experience in order picking, shipping, inventory control and distribution or receiving-related business operations is ideal for this position. 
  • Minimum of a high-school certificate is required, and college degreed persons will be considered for this position.

Reasoning:

Must be able to work and reason in a fast-paced, deadline-based environment with a high degree of accuracy and accomplishment. Extra hours may be required to stay until all daily shipment paperwork is completed, especially at the quarter-end of each accounting period.

Other Knowledge:

Requires good oral and written presentation skills to communicate ideas and procedures to management and peers. Good interpersonal skills. Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Oracle E1 applications is a plus. Valid Power Lift Equipment License, WHMIS and IATA certification is a requirement.

Physical Requirements:

While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk. They may need to lift boxes weighing up to 30 lbs and spend considerable time at a computer keyboard, composing receiving paperwork, spreadsheets, and handling e-mail. This position requires standing for 8 hours during a 10-hour shift. Operating power lift equipment to move material throughout the warehouse is required. The ability to pick orders in multiple temperatures is essential, ranging from ambient, 2-4 degrees Celsius, and minus 20 degrees Celsius
