Summary
We are offering a Master Thesis opportunity for a highly motivated student in the field of mechanical engineering, computational mechanics, or related disciplines. The thesis will focus on FEM-based simulations to optimize mechanical design in laser scanner systems, with a particular emphasis on drift behavior, stability analysis, and dynamic simulations of high-speed motion effects.
This role provides the unique chance to work at the intersection of cutting-edge simulation technology and real-world product innovation, contributing directly to the performance and reliability of Novanta’s high-precision laser scanning solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and execute finite element models (FEM) to analyze mechanical drift phenomena in laser scanner assemblies.
Conduct dynamic FEM simulations to evaluate system behavior under high-speed motion, including deformation and transient stability effects.
Investigate design optimization strategies to enhance stability, robustness, and long-term performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams in R&D, optics, and electronics to ensure holistic system-level insights.
Document methodologies, results, and recommendations in alignment with Novanta’s engineering excellence standards.
Present findings to the engineering leadership team and contribute to the innovation roadmap for next-generation products.
Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies
Enrollment in a Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Mechanics, Mechatronics, or related fields.
Strong foundation in FEM simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL).
Knowledge of mechanical design principles and structural optimization.
Analytical mindset with the ability to translate simulation results into practical design recommendations.
Excellent communication skills in English (CEFR B2 or higher).
