Job Summary: This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, House Office Buildings, Tenant Services Division, and Masonry Branch. The incumbent serves as assistant foreman in the Masonry Branch and provides supervision and coordination for service requests, construction and renovation projects, maintenance, and repair.

Major Duties:

  • Tour of Duty for this position is: Monday – Friday 4:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) available. This is an emergency essential position. Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays and weekends. Duties include, but are not limited to: Supervisory Responsibilities: Assign duties and evaluate employee's performance. Resolve complaints and grievances as delegated by higher level supervisors. Provide leadership to ensure support for equal employment opportunity (EEO) goals and requirements. Provide for employee skills enrichment through job related coaching, mentoring, and training. Manage an employee carrying out work at WG-8 and WG-11 levels. Prepare cost estimates from drawings, blueprints or site inspections for proposed or anticipated construction projects and alterations. Masonry Plans and Projects: Perform complex and intricate masonry work in the interior spaces of the House Office Buildings. Repair, maintain, and erect stone, brick, concrete, and concrete block. Use tools such as cement mixers, caulking guns, chisels, core boring machines, drills, electric hammers, floats, grinders, hammers, jack hammers, levels, masonry saws, plumbs, power washers, terrazzo finishing machines, squares, trowels, rakes, and shovels to perform work. Maintain and repair interior and exterior masonry surfaces and appurtenances, including base, columns, curbs, decks, fountains, pads, partition walls, partitions, pools, stairs, steps, structural slabs, and ramps. Set stone and other types of building materials on walls and partitions. Polish, cut, clean, and match a variety of bluestone, granite, limestone, marble, and sandstone. Lay block and brick. Set, lay, polish, and repair tile and terrazzo. Cut openings in walls and finishes exposed surfaces. Clean masonry surfaces using chemicals or high-pressure power washers. Install waterproof membranes in fountains, pools, and showers. Install ceramic tiles. Pour and finish concrete pads and decks. Determines Masonry Methods: Inspect work in progress to ensure work is accomplished according to specifications and plans. Oversee the cutting, polishing, cleaning, and matching of a wide variety of stone used. These include types of marble, granite, and limestone. Sort stone by size and shape and cuts, shapes, finishes, and lays it to ensure long term endurance and appearance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
