What you can look forward to

As Marine Standards Manager for Svitzer’s operations in Bangladesh, you will be responsible for the daily management of HSSEQ activities and support to the country fleet, crew and shore base. Reporting to the Country Manager, you will ensure safety and compliance with all regulations, support the development of the company safety management system and procedures, and continuously promote safety awareness and safe work practices to enhance the safety culture of the country operations.

What you will do

Your key responsibilities will be:

Marine standards:

  • Ensure Svitzer’s HSEQ and Marine Standards policies and procedures are adhered to by employees, contractors, and other stakeholders at all times.
  • Take initiative for proper and timely action in all areas of HSSEQ and Marine Standards to protect Svitzer Bangladesh trustworthiness.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the company safety management system in accordance with OVMSA, ISM, MLC and ISPS Code regulations.
  • Keep abreast of new developments within the industry on HSSEQ regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Conduct and manage internal audits and the local administration of the audit plan in compliance with OVMSA, ISM, ISPS and any other subsequent standards adopted by the company.
  • Liaise with country operation team to ensure country specific legislation relating to HSSEQ is reviewed and disseminated where necessary.
  • Produce monthly and other reports in relation to HSSEQ matters including customer / client reports.
  • Develop and manage the implementation of local safety initiatives as part of the company safety cultural development.
  • Conduct/coordinate local incident investigations under the guidance of Country Operations/Regional Head of Marine Standards.
  • Ensure incident records and statistics, including computer-based Incident reports and minutes produced by the country operation, are monitored and maintained.
  • Review vessel Master’s responses to the annual management review of safety and quality systems covering the Bangladesh operations under the relevant flag of registry.
  • Liaise with Flag registry and local Class authorities for external audit schedules and requirements, including reporting of close of external audit findings.
  • Ensure all vessels comply to Global and Regional Safety KPIs and Objectives.

Operations management:

In addition to the main job role responsibilities, the following duties may be reasonably required from time to time, including coverage for the Operations Manager during periods of absence as delegated by the Country Manager:

  • Attend briefings and meetings with Client Representatives as the Company Representative.
  • Develop, review, and improve Operational Procedures at the Offshore Operations.
  • Conduct regular Risk Assessments on the Operations, identify areas of high risk and potential improvement, and develop and implement measures to improve operational efficiency and safe operational practices and procedures.
  • Ensure ship’s husbandry is carried out onboard and the vessels are maintained to the expected Svitzer Standards at all time.
  • Ensure all crew have the required trainings in accordance with the company Training Matrix.
  • Carry out internal Svitzer OVMSA training for all crew onboard the vessels.

Who we are looking for

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • University degree or equivalent in marine / nautical sciences.
  • Formal qualifications in HSSEQ such as NEBOSH or equivalent is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of HSSEQ experience in the marine service operations environment.
  • Previous experience as a Marine Officer (preferably as senior officer) is preferred.
  • Recognized incident and root cause analysis investigator qualifications.
  • Recognized ISM, ISPS auditor qualifications.
  • DPA and CSO certification is preferred.
  • Fluency in written and oral English is mandatory.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, and well-organised.
  • In-depth knowledge of the maritime industry and flag state requirements.
  • Strong communication and people skills.
  • Able to work well under pressure and highly motivated.
