Summary

Oversees the planning, development, and maintenance of facilities and manufacturing equipment and machinery. Evaluates equipment processes, machinery, and workflow systems to optimize operational efficiencies. Ensures the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel in producing products at minimum costs. Evaluates and applies equipment automation and computerized technologies to manufacturing processes and systems. Investigates and initiates corrective action on equipment and facilities related manufacturing problems and initiates corrective action. Reviews, evaluates, and implements equipment changes and specification requirements. Acts as technical liaison with facilities planning and manufacturing engineering personnel. Develops systems to maintain reports and record keeping of equipment changes and how that affects manufacturing processing.

Job Description

  • Evaluates, selects, and installs equipment that is most appropriate and cost effective for the manufacture of company products. Oversees the installation, modification, upgrade, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment.
  • Manages the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, equipment, processes, and operations.
  • Ensures the effective use of materials, mechanical equipment, and personnel in producing quality products at minimum cost.
  • Develops studies to evaluate and improve equipment performance and reliability. Establishes programs and solutions for increasing uptime and for equipment problems that affect the manufacturing process.
  • Defines the role of necessary technical support that affects manufacturing equipment repair and process engineering organizations. Defines and evaluates appropriate preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Analyzes automation and facility functions and develops systems to maintain reports and recordkeeping of manufactured products. Documents equipment maintenance and defines maintenance scheduling to improve operational equipment efficiencies.
  • Prepares budgets and conduct reviews with project managers and indirect reports for projects designed to meet operational goals and objectives.
  • Directly supervises personnel on a manufacturing engineering team.
    • Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure technical competence of manufacturing engineering resources.
    • Implements company policies, programs, and guidelines with respect to equipment engineering, automation, maintenance, and facilities.
    • Maintains functional, technical, and functional awareness for managing the organization.
    • Managers a department to include Equipment Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, Controls Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Research Technicians, Program Analysts, Information Systems Technicians and Equipment Maintenance Technicians.

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus directly related experience in manufacturing engineer based on the following table is required.

Mgr III, Manufacturing Engineering

  • Seven years of directly related manufacturing engineering experience including four years of experience managing engineering teams. 
  • May have acquired additional skills during the pursuit and completion of a master’s degree, MBA, or other related post-graduate degree. Any combination of equivalent directly related education and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications as stated above. 
  • Must demonstrate in-depth technical knowledge in all aspects of medical device equipment manufacturing engineering.  
  • Must have highly developed skills analyzing and problem solving complex mechanical engineering problems.  
  • Must be able to equipment capacity and efficiency models used during the due diligence process of evaluating mechanical equipment performance.  
  • Must be able to lead cross-functional teams and drive results in order to meet operational requirements. 
  • Must have advanced technical skills in the use of computers and business software, including Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and related applications. 
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills. 
  • Must be able to write reports and presentations complete with charts and graphs to explain complex mechanical concepts. 
  • Must have project management skills in order to drive results under difficult time constraints.

  • Medium work that will frequently require employee to lift/move up to 15 lbs. and occasionally lift more than 25 lbs. 
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving heavy equipment and/or supplies occasionally.
  • Reaching above and below the shoulder occasionally.
  • Above-average agility and dexterity with the ability to hold, grasp and manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools occasionally.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and handle physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching, stretching, reaching, repetitive motion, or similar activities.
  • Work environments includes: exposure to chemicals, electrical current, proximity to moving mechanical parts, repetitive hand motion, open flame, working from heights, cold environment, hot environment, uneven surface, fumes.
