ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Managing Director (MD) of Institutional Services is a senior leader responsible for setting the strategic direction, driving growth, and ensuring operational excellence across Fifth Third’s institutional business lines. This includes institutional investment management, retirement plan advisory services, institutional trust and custody, and institutional sales.
The MD establishes long‑term strategies, develops annual budgets and forecasts, and ensures scalable, compliant, and client‑focused delivery across platforms and teams. The role serves as a key partner across Wealth & Asset Management (W&AM) and broader One Bank teams (i.e. Commercial Bank).
The MD plays a pivotal leadership role in achieving business growth, elevating the institutional client experience, and strengthening our competitive position in the institutional marketplace.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities for this role are below; you may support projects of varying complexity based on skill and organizational priorities.
Strategic Leadership & Vision: Develop, articulate, and execute the strategic roadmap for Institutional Services, ensuring alignment across institutional teams, W&AM leadership, and One Bank partners while promoting scalable, compliant, and market‑competitive solutions.
Sales Leadership & Process Optimization: Design, implement, and drive sales processes to maximize and achieve revenue growth and client experience goals across institutional business lines.
OneBank Sales Execution: Lead consistent execution and continuous improvement of the One Bank sales process, delivery model, and operating rhythms across regions and national lines of business — with a key focus on Commercial and Private Bank – using enhanced reporting and CRM insights to measure effectiveness and drive improvements.
Provider & Platform Oversight: Establish, optimize, and manage relationships with internal and external providers and vendors; ensure SLAs are met and that institutional platforms support efficient, high‑quality service and sales performance.
Integrated Marketing, Sales & Product Strategy: Lead coordinated branding, marketing, sales management, and product development initiatives. Gain cross‑functional support to successfully execute strategies that drive growth, enhance competitiveness, and expand institutional market presence.
Client Relationship Leadership: Strengthen client retention and deepen institutional relationships through proactive engagement, strategic oversight, and execution of effective retention programs.
Investment & Platform Management: Oversee management and continuous improvement of institutional investment and retirement platforms, ensuring scalable, efficient, and compliant delivery across all institutional channels.
Talent Leadership: Attract, motivate, coach, and retain top institutional talent; foster a high‑performing culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and client outcomes.
Product & Service Innovation: Identify gaps and opportunities within existing product and service models; champion enhancements that improve competitiveness, efficiency, and client value.
External Market Engagement: Represent Fifth Third within appropriate industry organizations and forums to expand visibility, cultivate client and provider relationships, and identify emerging opportunities.
Client Experience & Compliance Excellence: Partner closely with internal stakeholders to balance exceptional client experience with robust adherence to fiduciary, regulatory, and operational expectations.
Other Duties: Performing other duties as assigned, adapting to new tasks or shifts in priorities as necessary to support your team’s and the company’s mission.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree required.
15 or more years of experience in institutional investment management or institutional financial services, including investment management, custody, sales, and retirement plan administration.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Qualified candidates will possess an expert degree of proficiency (typically from 15+ years of work or practical experience), in:
Institutional Investment & Retirement Expertise: Deep understanding of institutional investment management, retirement plan advisory services, and institutional trust & custody.
Strategic Execution: Ability to translate strategic objectives into measurable outcomes and operational deliverables.
Business Development Acumen: Ability to identify, pursue, and cultivate institutional growth opportunities.
Client & Relationship Management: Demonstrates excellence in building and sustaining institutional relationships.
Operational Excellence: Optimizes workflows, platforms, and processes to improve scale and performance.
Leadership & People Management: Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire across multiple teams.

The base salary for this position is reflective of the range of salary levels for all roles within this pay grade across the U.S. Individual salaries within this range will vary based on factors such as role, relevant skillset, relevant experience, education and geographic location. In addition to the base salary, this role is eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan, with any such payment based upon company, line of business and/or individual performance.
