Role Purpose
The Managing Director, Asset Management is a senior leadership role with enterprise‑wide accountability for driving hands‑on operational optimisation and transformation across OMERS Infrastructure’s European asset portfolio, with a particular focus on transport and rail infrastructure.
This role is deeply embedded within the asset base. The successful candidate will spend meaningful time on‑site at assets, working side‑by‑side with management teams to review operational plans, interrogate KPIs, and accelerate delivery of performance improvement initiatives. The role combines direct operational engagement with Board‑level advisory responsibility, particularly on operational optimisation, cost reduction, and transformation programmes.
The individual will bring a proven operational transformation playbook and the credibility to challenge constructively, ensuring initiatives move at pace without destabilising core operations.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Transformation & Value Creation
Lead and execute hands‑on operational optimisation and transformation initiatives across OMERS Infrastructure’s European transport assets, targeting sustainable performance improvement and long‑term value creation
Spend significant time at asset level, working directly with operating teams to:
Review operational and business plans
Analyse and challenge KPIs, cost structures, and operational performance
Identify root causes of underperformance and opportunities for acceleration
Work side‑by‑side with management teams to ensure operational improvement and transformation initiatives are executed at pace
Advise Boards and senior stakeholders on operational optimisation, cost reduction, and transformation priorities, providing clear, practical recommendations
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operational efficiency, resilience, sustainability, and cost optimisation
Asset Management & Performance Oversight
Provide active oversight of asset performance, including operational, financial, regulatory, and risk dimensions, with the ability to intervene directly where required
Identify opportunities for asset optimisation, expansion, and operational enhancement across the European portfolio
Ensure assets operate in full compliance with regulatory requirements and OMERS Infrastructure policies
Leadership, Governance & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as a senior, credible leader with the authority and judgement to challenge management constructively without direct line control
Sit on the Boards and selected Board Committees of portfolio assets, representing OMERS and co‑investor interests, with a particular focus on operational performance and value creation
Influence effectively across complex stakeholder environments, balancing governance oversight with practical operational input
Build and maintain trusted relationships with co‑investors, partners, regulators, and senior stakeholders
Strategic Collaboration
Partner closely with OMERS Infrastructure investment teams on acquisitions, dispositions, and major value‑creation initiatives
Provide operational insight and judgement on asset performance, risks, and transformation priorities
Candidate Profile
Leadership Style
Senior, highly credible operator with deep experience in complex, asset‑heavy environments
Highly hands‑on, with the willingness and ability to work in detail alongside management teams
Comfortable influencing and challenging without formal line control
Pragmatic, execution‑focused leader who prioritises delivery over theory
Core Capabilities
Deep operational expertise with the ability to identify issues quickly, challenge assumptions, and drive practical solutions
Proven experience leading hands‑on operational optimisation and transformation, ideally where no prior centralised transformation function existed
Strong judgement on where and how to intervene to deliver impact without operational disruption
Ability to balance pace of change with operational stability
Sector & Regional Experience
Strong understanding of transport and rail infrastructure
Operational background strongly preferred; prior PE or co‑investment governance experience beneficial but not essential
