The Managing Director (MD) and Head, CIBC Family Office is responsible for leading the CIBC Family Office in Canada, setting the vision, strategy, and operating model to deliver integrated advisory services to Ultra-High Net Worth (UHNW) individuals and families. In addition to national leadership accountabilities, this role personally oversees a select portfolio of 25–50 high-profile UHNW relationships, ensuring exceptional service, rigorous governance, and coordinated “One CIBC” delivery aligned to the bank’s risk appetite and reputational standards.
This role involves overseeing all channels covering the key aspects of CIBC Family Office services, including cash management, credit structuring, investment management, estate planning, tax strategies, philanthropy, succession planning, and day-to-day administration. The Managing Director and Head, CIBC Family Office acts as a trusted advisor, coordinating with internal and external specialists to ensure seamless service and holistic financial stewardship. The Managing Director and Head, CIBC Family Office is accountable for developing the sales and service capabilities to support our strategic priorities of deepening client relationships and acquiring and retaining clients in the UHNW segment.

What You’ll be Doing
Execute the CIBC Family Office strategy aligned with CIBC Commercial Banking and Wealth Management (CBWM) objectives as determined by and in conjunction with the SVP and Head of Private Banking and Family Office.
Build internal partnerships across CIBC Capital Markets, Commercial Banking, Wood Gundy, CIBC Private Investment Counsel (CPIC), Bank USA and Caribbean and Imperial Service, and external Centres of Influence (COI) networks to expand UHNW opportunity flow and strengthen CIBC’s market presence.
Establish performance management disciplines (KPIs, dashboards, pipeline governance, capacity models) to scale delivery and improve client outcomes.
Direct Oversight of CEO/Senior Executive-Assigned UHNW Portfolio
Act as senior relationship executive accountable for end-to-end coordination of planning, advice, and servicing for a select group of high-profile UHNW families.
Provide proactive oversight of client experience, responsiveness, issue resolution, and escalation management.
Coordinate integrated solutions across investments, credit, trust/estate, insurance (as applicable), business banking, and philanthropy/legacy planning, while ensuring clear accountability and follow-through.
Client Advisory Governance & Solution Oversight (National)
Ensure consistent delivery of CIBC Family Office services, typically including: advanced financial planning and wealth structuring (in coordination with external tax/legal counsel), family governance (family meetings, charters, decision frameworks), intergenerational wealth transfer and successor preparedness, philanthropic planning and legacy advisory, consolidated balance sheet/cash flow oversight and complex liquidity planning.
Serve as the senior escalation point for complex matters, reputational sensitivities, and cross-border considerations (in partnership with appropriate internal/external experts).
Operating Model & Service Excellence
Own the end-to-end engagement model (intake, discovery, delivery roadmap, documentation standards, case management, follow-ups).
Implement and continuously enhance service standards for timeliness, quality, and client experience, including for executive-referred relationships.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of Regional Heads of CIBC Family Office, to provide local coverage across Canada
Set performance expectations; drive coaching, succession planning, and specialist development to support UHNW complexity.
Business Management & Financial Performance
Own business planning, budgeting, and forecasting for the CIBC Family Office function.
Monitor profitability, fee outcomes (where applicable), and productivity; identify opportunities to improve capacity, quality, and economics of deliver
Risk Management, Governance & Controls
Maintain strong controls across onboarding, due diligence, documentation, privacy/consent, conflicts management, complaint handling, and ongoing monitoring.
For enterprise-referred clients, ensure enhanced governance, appropriate approvals, and timely escalation of material risks or reputational concerns.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Suggested designations including CFP, CFA, CPA, TEP, FEA, CSC & CPH.
Extensive (10 years+) leadership experience in UHNW wealth management, private banking and/or family office (single or multi).
Demonstrated success building, scaling, and governing a complex advisory platform.
Proven capability managing a select portfolio of highly sensitive, high-profile UHNW relationships with executive visibility.
Strong knowledge of balance sheet and cash-flow planning, complex credit, investment governance, and Canadian wealth planning topics (estate, philanthropy, succession), with appropriate coordination with external tax and legal counsel.
Comfort with multi-jurisdiction considerations and heightened due diligence expectations.
Executive presence and strong facilitation skills for family governance discussions and complex stakeholder environments.
Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to manage confidentiality and reputational sensitivity.
Strong stakeholder management across senior executives and control functions.
Strong business management: KPIs, pipeline governance, capacity planning, and continuous improvement.
Clear, concise written and verbal communication; ability to drive accountability through a matrix model.
