[What the role is]

The Singapore Food Agency’s mission is to ensure and secure a supply of safe food. The Food Business Department of the Authorisations Divisions is responsible for granting licences, permits and other authorisations for primary production (farms), non-retail, and retail food establishments, pesticide operations and registration of pesticides.

The officer will be part of a dynamic team in the Food Business Department of the Authorisations Division. You will be responsible for granting licences, permits and other authorisations to different food businesses. You will guide food businesses and individuals on processes and requirements to secure authorisations. You will also drive the review, refinement, and implementation of efficient processes for granting of authorisations.

[What you will be working on]

You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for the following:

  • Process licence applications of retail food businesses, which include assessing the layout plans of premises and imposing suitable food safety requirements
  • Streamline licensing processes/workflows and carry out licensing systems reviews and development to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Carry out reviews, plan and implement revised/new licensing regime/initiatives
  • Conduct pre-licensing verifications of the premises to ensure compliance with SFA’s food safety requirements
  • Engage stakeholders (e.g. other agencies and industry associations) as part of the regulatory and process reviews
  • Attend to public enquiries on licensing-related matters
  • Represent the Department in inter-agency committees/work groups
  • Prepare management reports

[What we are looking for]

  • Degree in Food Science/Food Technology or Science-related discipline
  • Knowledge in HACCP or Food Safety Management System will have an added advantage
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Able to engage and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially in Microsoft Excel
