Operations is responsible for materials handling and product distribution in a distribution or manufacturing environment. Includes warehousing and fulfillment of materials and products, transportation, inventory management as well as demand, supply and manufacturing planning. Transportation is responsible for the movement of materials and products between suppliers, manufacturing, warehousing and the customer. Management of transportation assets and systems to gain greater service, cost efficiency and optimization of processes.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Transportation Execution, the Transportation Manager is responsible for the execution and performance of Truckload (TL) and Less‑Than‑Truckload (LTL) transportation across the Pharmaceutical & Specialty Solutions (PSS) segment. This role oversees day-to-day transportation movements, carrier performance, and service execution to ensure safe, reliable, and cost‑effective delivery.
The Transportation Manager partners closely with internal operations and transportation stakeholders to drive service excellence, resolve issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the PSS network.
This position supports operations in our Groveport facilities and involves frequent on‑site engagement. Candidates should be located within reasonable travel distance or willing to travel regularly.
Responsibilities
Lead day‑to‑day transportation execution for inbound and outbound freight across multiple distribution and manufacturing locations, ensuring consistent on‑time performance across all supported modes.
Manage trailer utilization, route and mode optimization, and backhaul identification to improve network efficiency, cost control, and fleet revenue performance.
Oversee service level agreement (SLA) attainment and actively manage carrier performance, resolve service issues and escalate risks as needed to protect customer commitments.
Serve as the primary point of accountability for weekly and monthly transportation activities, including carrier invoice approval, KPI reporting, budget tracking, and variance explanation.
Partner closely with Finance, Procurement, and Operations teams to support transportation planning, expense management, and issue resolution across the network.
Support customer engagement needs by responding to service inquiries, supporting special delivery requests, and addressing performance concerns in coordination with site leadership.
Provide operational input and execution support for transportation system reporting and month‑end close activities, ensuring data accuracy and timely financial reporting.
Drive continuous improvement through process standardization, documentation, and hands‑on problem solving across transportation execution workflows.
Develop and implement transportation strategies that align with business goals and customer needs.
Manage carrier performance through quarterly business reviews (QBRs), scorecards, and recognition programs.
Qualifications
8-12 years of experience, preferred
Bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Experience in pharmaceutical or healthcare distribution is a plus
Travel availability: 25%
