What’s the role?
As a Manager, Transaction Fraud, you'll be at the forefront of keeping Etsy a safe and trusted marketplace! We're looking for an exceptional people leader to lead a team of Fraud Enforcement Managers in proactively detecting fraud at the point of transactions, minimizing losses, conducting in-depth investigations, and diving into data to spot trends. You'll work hand-in-hand with teams across Customer Service, Product, Engineering, Data Science, and Operations, all with the goal of making our defenses even better.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Manager of Transaction Fraud in the larger Risk and Fraud organization. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?
Lead a team of 4-9 Fraud Enforcement Managers (Individual Contributor investigations roles), including skills development, coaching, and performance management developing their abilities to conduct increasingly sophisticated investigations and recommend changes that drive improvement
Define and coordinate the Transaction Fraud team operations, including transaction review, email support, investigation and review of internal controls.
Achieve targets for loss rate, approval rate, chargeback rate, false‑positive rate, and manual review SLAs; and overall productivity.
Develop, lead, or support strategic initiatives to quantifiably improve products, process, policies, and overall operations.
Resolve escalated investigations, capture and share learnings to improve team processes, and recommend customer relationship retention or suspension.
Establish QA standards, playbooks, and incident response; lead root‑cause analyses and postmortems.
Advise Risk and Fraud leadership of new or emerging transaction fraud trends and industry best practices related to transaction fraud mitigation.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
3+ years of people management (or a leadership role).
Hands‑on experience mitigating online transaction fraud (e.g., card testing, mass account creation, BNPL abuse, gift card schemes) in e‑commerce or marketplaces.
Experience with rules engines, case management, and partnering with ML on model performance and experiments.
Excellent communication skills and an ability to synthesize complicated information and make clear, concise recommendations on a course of action.
Outstanding interpersonal skills; developing relationships across functions and levels comes naturally to you.
Preferred: Basic SQL experience.
