Engineering Manager

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join the leadership of our ODL (Operational Data Lake) team. As one of several leaders on the team, you will be responsible for managing a high-performing team of data engineers, driving technical excellence, and contributing to architectural decisions and technology strategy. This role is focused on delivering scalable data solutions using modern data engineering technologies and cloud platforms.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of ODL Software Engineers and Senior ODL Software Engineers.
  • Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions for scalable data pipelines, services, and infrastructure.
  • Champion data engineering best practices, including code reviews, test development, and automated deployment processes.
  • Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing data engineering team through coaching and career development.
  • Collaborate with data science, analytics, and BI teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Oversee the full development lifecycle for data systems, from planning and design to deployment and maintenance.
  • Establish and monitor engineering KPIs, including data quality, pipeline performance, and team velocity.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data engineering processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Manage technical debt and ensure the long-term health and scalability of our data platforms.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, accountability, and technical excellence within the team.
  • Provide regular reporting on team performance and project status to executive leadership.

 

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software or data engineering experience, with at least 3+ years in an engineering management role.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and distributed data processing frameworks like Spark/Databricks.
  • Proven experience with designing and building scalable REST services.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Demonstrated success building and managing high-performance engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture patterns, data modeling, and microservices design.
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure as code, preferably with Terraform.
  • Excellent technical problem-solving and system design skills.
  • Strong leadership abilities with experience in team building, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and modern development practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience implementing modern observabilitystacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, database design, and optimization (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Experience with BI and data visualization tools.
  • Experience scaling engineering teams in fast-growing organizations.
  • Knowledge of data security best practices and compliance requirements.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field.
