Job Description Summary:
Role Overview
The Scientist will work in the Analytical Science Laboratory within the Company’s Headquarter located in Atlanta, Georgia. This role supports R&D and business projects through the development, validation, and application of analytical methods, particularly in flavor and juice analysis. The Scientist will collaborate closely with internal teams and clients, conduct routine and non-routine testing, interpret complex data, and communicate analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Candidates of interest must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents (green card holders).
Key Responsibilities
Develop, validate, and apply analytical methods to support R&D and business needs.
Design experiments and conduct routine and non-routine analytical testing.
Perform sample preparation, profiling, and quantitation of flavors and volatile organic compounds in juices and related matrices.
Interpret, correlate, and communicate analytical data and findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Troubleshoot analytical challenges and perform non-routine problem solving in support of business projects.
Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments.
Search and review scientific literature and technical resources to identify emerging trends and establish new analytical capabilities.
Write validated method reports and document experimental findings.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Apopka R&D, Flavor Research, and other analytical groups across the Company.
Organize laboratory workflow and manage priorities to maximize efficiency.
Interact with internal and external clients to support analytical requests.
Travel domestically up to 5% as required.
Required Skills & Expertise
Strong hands-on experience with GC/LC and GC/MS, LC/MS for flavor, juice, daily, food, beverage, and consumer product analysis.
Expertise in sample preparation, cleanup, and extraction techniques for diverse matrices.
Demonstrated ability in method development, validation, and analytical troubleshooting.
Experience in qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis, including precision and accuracy concepts.
Ability to perform trace analysis and characterization of unknown compounds.
Proficiency in data interpretation, correlation, and reporting.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
In-depth knowledge of analytical instrumentation, including theory, operation, maintenance, and repair.
Ability to independently acquire and apply new analytical knowledge and techniques.
Education & Experience
Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry with 3+ years of relevant industry experience, or
BS or MS in Analytical Chemistry with 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
Preferred Competencies
Experience with LC, LC/MS, and GC/Olfactometry, rheology and spectroscopic techniques.
Knowledge and practical experience in flavor chemistry/science and organic chemistry.
Advanced ability to integrate multiple analytical techniques to solve complex problems.
Strong understanding of chromatographic principles and mass spectrometry applications.
Experience supporting analytical work for flavors, juices, food and beverage products, environmental samples, or consumer products.
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and within cross-functional teams.
