Business Banking (BB) serves the banking needs of Australian businesses. As part of the Small Business Banking (SBB), you will support the distribution of Business Banking and Retail Banking products via our channels. Small Business Banking (SBB) is responsible for managing customers with <$3m turnover and <$1.25m aggregated credit facilities. SBB is also responsible for a variety of channels and services that serve customers across all BB segments, including Business Home Lending Specialists and Broker, Agency & Specialist Sales.
SBB Line 1 Risk & Control Advisory & Delivery team is responsible for providing end to end risk and control advisory and delivery service. The team executes and supports embedment of risk management activities in alignment with the operational risk and compliance frameworks, such as designing and implementing controls. Additionally, ensuring each BU LT has the right level of oversight and governance.
Do work that matters:
As a Manager Risk and Control Line 1, you will be reporting to the Senior Manager and responsible for supporting the SBB Business Performance, Business Home Lending (BHL) Team and the Broker, Agency & Specialist Sales (BASS) Teams within SBB.
The BHL team support business banking customers with their home lending needs. BASS manages intermediary relationships and sources new business banking opportunities from accredited asset finance and commercial brokers. BASS also services a range of vendors and agents, fleet managers and industry associations. In addition to being responsible for business performance optimisation and managing SBB initiated changes, the SBB Business Performance team includes BB Client Services and Business Lending Solutions.
On any given day you will:
Manage risk assessments and controls, integrating insights from customer experience and process improvement.
Support with the identification, escalation and reporting of operational risk and compliance matters to the BB leadership team and other relevant stakeholders
Manage root cause analysis of issues and incidents, identifying and implementing control improvements, maintaining quality documentation throughout
Provide pragmatic risk advice to the team in control design and evaluation, ensuring a safe, sound and efficient operational environment
Administer governance forums, including preparation, and action management
Responsible for reporting on operational risk and control profiles, issues, incidents and other matters
Collaborate with stakeholders in SBB to complete change risk assessments.
Work effectively with business stakeholders and Line 2 colleagues to determine optimal course of action within the BU/SU.
Proactively upskill yourself on new and emerging risks, particularly relating to BB’s data, analytics capability and AI strategy, changes to risk and compliance frameworks and Group policies
Contribute to a culture of learning and collaboration with your business partners and help with uplifting risk capability by running knowledge sharing sessions
Capture and maintain data quality of risk and compliance items captured in the Group risk management tool (e.g. RiskInSite).

Strong technical skills and knowledge in Operational Risk, Strategy and/or Governance.
The ability to find solutions that balance the needs of various stakeholder groups.
Strong attention to detail, organisational, planning, time management and project management skills.
Experience in process improvements, driving actions and delivering measured benefits.
Ability to think critically, analytically and strategically.
Ability to engage with and influence a large and varied stakeholder group.
3-7 years’ experience in banking/financial services/other relevant experience, and/or minimum 2 - 3 years’ experience in Operational Risk management roles.
