The opportunity
The Manager, Performance Analytics, plays an important role in the measurement and monitoring of OTPP’s Total Fund performance. Key responsibilities include the development and implementation of advanced analytics tools to drive performance improvements across the organization. The role is also accountable for the monitoring and reporting of OTPP’s performance from an asset class, department and regional perspective. This role is pivotal in transforming data into analytics and actionable insights, enabling informed decision-making and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Who they will work with
The Manager, Performance Analytics will will report to the Senior Manager of Performance Analytics and will interact regularly with senior management, external vendors, and key stakeholders to ensure alignment and effective communication of Performance Analytics results. They will collaborate closely with various departments, including Investments, Risk, Finance and IT.
Provide daily monitoring, analysis and reporting for official enterprise Performance Analytics which includes daily dollars earned, rates of return, benchmark calculations and value add.
Generate and review attribution analysis which illustrates “how the money is made” and “how OTPP assets performed against benchmarks”.
Liaise with Investments around the development and maintenance of analytical tools to provide performance insights and provide subject matter expertise to the organization.
Work closely with Risk and Investments around the development and implementation of new performance analytics impacting assets or benchmarks.
Maintain and enhance the BI reporting suite and various analysis tools developed inhouse to facilitate deeper understanding of performance drivers.
Deliver value add ad-hoc reports and analysis to internal clients at Ontario Teachers’.
Detect and escalate to decision makers at Ontario Teachers’ relevant issues and highlight industry best practices.
Support and champion innovation to improve efficiency and drive insights.
The Manager will provide leadership and support to junior analysts on the Performance Analytics team and will act as the Senior Manager’s backup for vacation coverage.
This function will ensure new performance analytics tools are designed and deployed into official performance reporting workspaces in a timely and controlled manner while providing explaining new insights to reporting consumers.
What you’ll need
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Statistics, Data Science, Business Analytics).
CFA designation
Exceptional knowledge of the CFA Institute GIPS with CIPM designation preferred but not necessary
Minimum of 5 years of experience in performance analytics or a related field.
Proven track record of building analytics and working on cross-department projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Excellent knowledge of investment products and derivatives
Solid knowledge in active risk measurement, benchmarking and performance measurement/attribution
Strong understanding of database structures and reporting tools
Strong proficiency in data analysis tools and software (such as SQL, Python, PowerBI, Snowflake, Databricks)
