Job Description

The Manager of Patient Accounts Billing and Payer Collections is a pivotal role within the hospital revenue cycle, responsible for overseeing all aspects of hospital insurance claim submissions and claim payments. This position ensures maximum reimbursement while upholding legal and regulatory requirements. It manages the full revenue cycle process—including billing, collections, and denial management—with a comprehensive understanding of payer policies and contractual obligations. The role involves developing, standardizing, and monitoring the processes used by patient account representatives and supervisors, and requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to drive efficiency through automation and close collaboration with the Information Technology department. Additionally, this manager routinely coordinates with patient access, coding, and utilization/quality teams while maintaining high customer service standards.

The Manager of Patient Accounts Billing and Payer Collections will execute these responsibilities in compliance with University Health’s quality measures and regulatory requirements.
 

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent through a combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years of experience in a hospital billing and collections, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage, develop and supervise others
  • Working knowledge of complex insurance payer types, contract language, denials, appeals processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to maintain professional relationships with internal and external organizations
  • Work independently, identify issues, provide recommendations and produce solutions.
  • Willingness and ability to accept responsibility for visible and critical position
  • Extensive understanding of computerized patient accounting systems, and the accounting skills necessary to reconcile accounts.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computerized spreadsheets, and in use of 10-key keypad, and have keyboarding skills sufficient to produce memos, policy and procedures, and other communications in and outside the department. Conducts self in a professional manner and reflects a positive image
