About the Role

This is a front-line leadership role ideal for a hands-on professional who thrives in a collaborative healthcare environment and is passionate about safety, compliance, facility operations, and operational excellence.

The Manager of Regional Engineering & Safety is responsible for ensuring successful physical plant operations for assigned properties owned or operated by the Health System. This includes routine inspections, testing, preventative maintenance, renovation and repair projects, associated documentation, and partnership with center maintenance teams to support timely completion and accurate documentation within TELS.

This position works directly with nursing center maintenance staff, Administrators, Real Estate Services leadership, and other key stakeholders to identify physical plant needs, recommend repair or replacement work, support compliance with federal and state fire/life safety and emergency preparedness regulations, and confirm the quality and completeness of contractor work.

What You Will Do

Operations & Facility Management

  • Support Administrators and maintenance associates in implementing established maintenance and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Conduct scheduled site visits to confirm maintenance duties are completed, TELS documentation is current, and appropriate procedures are followed.
  • Identify physical plant needs and make recommendations regarding repair, replacement, equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Periodically check equipment, emergency trailers, and supply readiness to ensure resources are available and in proper working order.
  • Assist with standardizing methods for how maintenance tasks are performed across the organization.

Safety, Compliance & Survey Readiness

  • Support nursing center leadership in preparation for surveys and inspections by government agencies and accrediting bodies.
  • Support compliance with fire/life safety, emergency preparedness, building code, occupational safety, infection control, and environmental safety requirements.
  • Review work areas and equipment to support fire protection, prevention, and associate safety programs.
  • Promptly report observed equipment concerns or physical plant damage to the Administrator and Real Estate Services leadership.
  • Partner with maintenance associates to ensure hazardous chemicals are properly labeled and stored and that safety procedures are followed.

Project, Budget & Resource Support

  • Assist with obtaining, reviewing, and monitoring project costs within approved budgets.
  • Contribute project data for historical cost tracking and future planning.
  • Review requests to purchase tools and equipment not included on the standard inventory list.
  • Monitor maintenance processes to ensure tools, equipment, and supplies are used efficiently and waste is avoided.
  • Complete required forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and related administrative documentation.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise Regional Maintenance Technicians to ensure proper utilization of time and quality of work performed.
  • Guide maintenance staff in the development and use of departmental procedures, equipment, documentation, and supplies.
  • Review maintenance team competency and recommend training, coaching, or corrective action as needed.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with associates, Administrators, department heads, contractors, and organizational leaders.
  • Participate in committees, workgroups, project management activities, and other collaborative efforts that support the success of the organization.

What You Bring

  • Knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems in a healthcare or related environment.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs, physical plant operations, and project management.
  • Familiarity with federal and state fire codes, Life Safety Code®, building codes, emergency management regulations, occupational safety regulations, and healthcare facility requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across multiple locations and leadership levels.
  • Strong communication skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and a service-oriented approach.
  • Commitment to servant leadership, compliance, patient rights, safety, and maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable care environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a maintenance role in a healthcare setting or related position required.
  • Knowledge of physical plant operations, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, fire/life safety regulations, building codes, and emergency preparedness regulations required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises Regional Maintenance Technicians and provides leadership, guidance, and accountability for work quality, resource utilization, documentation, and compliance support across assigned locations.
