The Opportunity
This role is based in Plymouth, MN and provides leadership for the NPI Purchasing team, focusing on developing talent, driving best practices, and ensuring operational excellence in support of new product launches. The manager will lead a team of NPI Buyers responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and planning activities for prototype and production phases. This position partners closely with Program Management, Engineering, and Supply Chain Planning to ensure timely part setup, accurate master data, and seamless integration into SAP systems. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
What You’ll Work On
- Lead and develop NPI Buyers, providing coaching, training, and mentorship to build a high-performing team.
- Establish and enforce best practices for NPI purchasing, including supplier engagement, PO management, and compliance with quality and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee SAP purchasing and planning processes, ensuring accurate part setup, BOM alignment, and master data integrity.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align purchasing activities with program timelines and product development milestones.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize lead times, reduce risk, and improve efficiency within NPI supply chain operations.
- Support strategic sourcing decisions for new technologies and suppliers during early product development phases.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing or supply chain, with a focus on NPI or product development environments.
- 3+ years of experience managing a team of buyers or similar roles.
- Strong knowledge of SAP purchasing and planning processes, including part setup and master data management.
- Proven ability to coach and develop team members while driving process standardization.
- Ability to travel 5–10%, including internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Business or Supply Chain Management.
- Experience in medical device or other highly regulated industries.
- Lean/Six Sigma certification or experience with process improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with design-for-supply-chain principles and early supplier involvement.
