Market Operations is a Global team of 400+ Operations Professionals who support our Global Markets, Commodities, Structured Trade & Treasury businesses globally. Functions performed are trade confirmation / affirmation, settlement, reconciliation, and client data capture/maintenance, corporate actions (the front to back trade lifecycle) across FX, Fixed Income, Rates, Commodities, Carbon, Structured Trade. Derivatives and Loans.
Market Operations also provides Middle and Back Office services including Collateral Management, Regulatory Reporting, Client Reference Data maintenance, Client Onboarding, Account Origination, Client Case Management, International Loan Administration & Operations, Trade Support, Confirmation services and Settlements / Payments.
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly experienced Manager to lead Market Operations in our Tokyo Branch. This is a critical role responsible for the end-to-end delivery, control, and governance of financial market operations in a highly regulated environment.
You will play a key role in ensuring safe, compliant, and timely execution of transactions, while balancing local regulatory requirements with regional and global operating models.

Your key responsibilities will include:
- Lead and oversee Tokyo Branch Market Operations activities across Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M)
- Oversee payment settlements, including BOJ operations, nostro and cash management, remittances, and account maintenance
- Ensure accurate and timely transaction processing in line with regulatory and control requirements
- Manage regulatory reporting obligations and ensure compliance with local requirements
- Manage operational risk, exceptions, and escalations in line with the CBA operational risk framework
- Strong risk management and governance oversight of control performance and new product development. This includes ensuring effective operational workflow design, SOP development, training, and readiness attestation
- Represent Market Operations in local governance and management forums
- Maintain and develop strategic stakeholder relationships and influence and collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders (including CBA functional leads; vendors) to deliver mutually beneficial outcomes
- Drive operational resilience, including SOP ownership and business continuity readiness.
We are interested in hearing from candidates who have:
- Extensive experience in financial markets/treasury operations, with strong settlements expertise
- Extensive knowledge and hands on experience with BOJ-NET Terminal operations
- Strong knowledge of Japanese market practices, including BOJ operations and JGB settlement
- Deep understanding of operational risk and regulatory requirements in Japan
- Proven ability to operate independently in a high-accountability environment
- Strong communication skills with Tokyo Branch stakeholders, regional teams and head office
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese (required)
- Sound judgment and decision-making capability in complex situations
- Customer-centric mindset, especially for high-value clients
- Proactive approach to driving change and continuous improvement.
