Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as a Manufacturing Engineering Manager based out of Chantilly, VA.

The STC is where technology and teamwork come together to meet the unique needs of the Intelligence Community and Department of Defense. The STC is comprised of multiple mission-focused programs with projects ranging from Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) SIGINT payload and data link development to OCONUS/CONUS mission/maintenance support. STC tasks include system design, engineering development, system integration, hands-on build and test, field operations and maintenance, training, and production.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager for the SIDE OU (Signal Intelligence Data Exploitation Operating Unit) will be responsible for leading the direct supervision of the manufacturing team as well as leading the technical aspect of taking the product design and converting it into a sequence of assembly/manufacturing instructions to maximize efficiency and achieve target yields with a focus on process improvements in quality, affordability, and schedule. development, integration, and testing of production hardware as well as, documenting the test plan and developing the software and hardware solution necessary.

What You’ll Get To Do:

  • Direct production activities to plan, prepare, issue, and control production schedules, in conjunction with technical and program requirements to meet production/delivery requirements in a fast-paced environment.

  • Oversee the status of work in process, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that equipment, materials, and services are available, as needed.

  • Allocate staffing to maximize efficiency, achieve schedule, and target productive yields.

  • Coordination with cross functional teams across multiple organization including Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering and Business Management to ensure effective communication and coordination.

  • Lead and optimize manufacturing operations by developing and implementing strategies that enhance productivity, reduce cost, and ensure high-quality product delivery.

  • Accountable for maintenance of site-specific manufacturing standard operating procedures, work instructions, forms, and instructions/procedures within site MES. 

  • Develop manufacturing proposals & basis-of-estimates (BOEs) for potential contracts.

  • Build, coach, and mentor a high-performing manufacturing team.

  • Direct development and implementation of continuous improvement objectives using Least Waste Way Standard Work and eliminating waste to improve safety, ensure quality, meet delivery schedules, and raise morale.

  • Provide guidance to Design Engineering during drawing reviews regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques; and to identify any manufacturability challenges or changes required ahead of drawing release.

  • Proactive management of risks, issues, or opportunities relating to cost and schedule performance.

  • Establish Procedures for calibration and Maintenance of standard tools across Manufacturing as well laboratory management ensuring compliance with ESD and FOD requirements.

  • Ensuring configuration control of test software and hardware, test quality, test documentation, test equipment calibration, equipment/software improvements,  troubleshooting, and program meetings.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills also required.

The ideal candidate will be able to work individually as well as collaborate with a diverse group of individuals, work tactically, but with an eye towards future strategy, and exhibit solid communication skills while acting as the technical representative voice for manufacturing.

Basic Qualifications for Manager Manufacturing Engineering 1:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of Manufacturing and or Engineering experience; or masters degree with 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant, direct experience managing people or project leadership in manufacturing/production, operations, or engineering.
  • Experience with SAP/MES.
  • Experience effectively communicate with all levels of Manufacturing, Program Management, Engineering, Functional Support Management, and all other stakeholders.
  • Project management experience in manufacturing and or engineering.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret or higher Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen

 

Preferred Qualifications for Manager Manufacturing Engineering 1

  • A Bachelors in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) field, or a Masters in a STEM field

  • Experience providing innovative techniques focused on improving product designs and tooling assemblies or equipment. 

  • Continuous improvement implementation experiences that include problem solving, and leading project teams to improve flow and standardize processes.

  • Supervisory/management experience.

  • Lean Manufacturing Experience

  • Active Secret or higher Clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $165,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
