SUMMARY

This leadership position will manage the Substation & Transmission Maintenance Engineering teams while reporting to the Standards, System Health & Maintenance organization and based in Tualatin, Oregon at the Avery Regional Service Center. This role is focused specifically on supporting a team of engineers responsible for supporting the transmission and substation maintenance programs for Portland General Electric-owned assets.

As a leader of these critical engineering functions, you will focus on day-to-day tactical support and long-term development of a team of engineers while working to improve work management and maintenance planning processes between operations and crew scheduling teams. You will also be responsible for ensuring timely and coordinated escalation of urgent asset health needs, supporting the spare equipment strategy, and working to advocate for aging asset replacement programs. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintenance Engineering Management - Manages a team of maintenance engineering professionals in transmission maintenance and substation maintenance responsible for providing functional and economical engineering solutions to operations and maintenance problems through improvement and maintenance of plant safety, reliability, efficiency and regulatory compliance in a responsible and progressive manner; provides technical management for the team, ensuring that objectives are met and all relevant standards/procedures are followed; ensures that operational problems are identified and resolved; ensures that operational procedures and working practices are current and fit for the purpose.
  • Maintenance Program Management - Manages the substation maintenance subfunction, ensuring accomplishment of engineered solutions in support of new substations and operations and maintenance of existing facilities, that technical support to crews on maintenance engineering designs is provided and that maintenance plans for substation apparatus are developed and maintained.
  • Financial Management - Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.
  • Resourcing - Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team; partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.
  • Professional Development - Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

Education

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.

Experience

  • Prefer eight or more years in engineering.

Certifications

  • Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.

Compensation Range:

$131,110.00 - $243,490.00

Actual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis.
