Department Overview
The Business Banking Governance & Control (BBG&C) team acts as the 1st Line of Defense (1B) in TD's "Three Lines of Defense" model to risk management. We work with Control Partners to ensure appropriate control frameworks are implemented within Business Banking (BB) that are designed to effectively and proactively mitigate operational and regulatory risk. We are also responsible for completing quality control testing activities to ensure appropriate compliance to regulations and business processes.
Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Governance and Control supporting Business Banking will lead and manage various governance activities to ensure Business Banking has adequately considered, managed, and mitigated operational risks and is operating within risk appetite. The role requires sufficient expertise to review and assess whether the Business is adhering to internal (risk management, oversight function and audit) and regulatory requirements, requests, and expectations.
What you will do
The Manager Governance and Control will lead a team to provide oversight and independent challenge to Business Banking through review, inquiry and discussion, identification of issues and opportunities and recommending actions to senior management and executive leadership. The Manager Governance and Control will work with Business Banking, second- and third-line risk and control partners to assess risks and controls across the business. The G&C Manager will provide information, reporting and support to ensure operational and compliance risks are appropriately managed and adherence to internal procedures and applicable regulatory guidelines is effective.
Act as a subject matter expert in governance and control and provide advice to business stakeholders on risk programs (i.e. RCSA), control and process design.
Lead a team of risk professionals
Ensure governance and control programs/business processes are well designed and are operating effectively to meet business and risk objectives and comply regulatory requirements.
Understand end-to-end processes and integrate best practices to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of governance and control programs.
Partner with business and functional stakeholders to drive and deliver governance and control program change and improvement initiatives.
Provide regular and timely communication on the status of governance and control program compliance, issues, changes and initiatives.
Build and maintain effective and productive relationships with business and functional stakeholders.
Stay up to date on current and emerging industry and business developments and trends.
Evolve risk capabilities and business knowledge and stay up to date on related methodologies and tools.
Contribute to team development of skills and capabilities by sharing knowledge and experiences.
Champion respect, inclusion and diversity.
What you will bring
Minimum 8+ years related experience
Risk Program experience (Issue Management, RCSA, ORE etc) and/or previous Audit, 1st Line Controls Testing experience is an asset
1B risk and control experience
Previous people management experience is an asset
Ability to work independently and collaboratively to build relationships across teams and functions
Proficient knowledge of governance, risk and control procedures, strategies & tactics
Effective time management, multi-tasking and organizational skills to meet tight timelines and adapt to changing priorities.
Skill in using MS Office, with advanced proficiency in using Microsoft Excel
A business or finance degree
Certification(s) relating to Risk or Audit e.g. CRM, CISA, CIA, CPA, CA or international equivalent is an asset
