Director, Climate Strategy - Engagement & Disclosure

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

We are looking for an adaptable, strategic, forward-thinking Director to contribute to advancing our climate strategy, with a focus on engagement and disclosure. This role is responsible for external and internal engagement related to RBC’s climate strategy and for leading RBC’s climate-related disclosure and reporting.

This role reports to the Senior Director, Climate Strategy and is part of RBC’s Climate Strategy & Governance team in the Enterprise Strategy & Transformation function. The team is responsible for shaping RBC’s climate ambition and supporting strategy delivery while ensuring strong cross-enterprise alignment on strategic priorities and actions. It serves as a central connection point for the enterprise on climate, bringing climate expertise, external insights, connectivity and best practices to groups across RBC. 

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Contribute to work to advance and evolve our climate strategy with a focus on ensuring stakeholder and industry feedback is incorporated into strategy research and development
  • Develop and own climate strategy performance disclosure content for our Annual Report, Management Proxy and Sustainability Report, including maintaining controls and partnering closely with Finance and Law Group to mitigate disclosure and legal risk
  • Identify opportunities to enhance connectivity and deepen integration of climate with external climate stakeholders and across the bank, including partnering with the VP and Senior Director within the Climate Strategy team and with the functions and business leaders to design and deliver on improvements, overseeing website updates and communications strategy delivery 
  • Build and implement a policy and industry engagement strategy, evolving Climate Strategy’s approach to policy engagement and representing RBC in industry engagement on climate

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

 Must have

  • 7+ years of relevant experience, with a preference for experience in strategy, reporting, controls, professional and/or financial services sectors; experience in climate/sustainability roles a benefit
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Demonstrated ability to lead sustainability and/or financial reporting and experience meeting control expectations
  • Exceptional problem-solving and synthesis of key insights; analytical and strategic mindset
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, particularly impact and influence
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple projects and timelines simultaneously

Nice-to-have:   

  • Experience working in a large matrix organization and/or with corporate sustainability
  • Experience meeting control expectations and dealing with complex disclosure and reporting
