Our Diagnostics CoreLab team is hiring for a Manager II Engineering. They are responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. Manage department or projects engaged in complex product or process development/support. Oversee multiple projects within a single engineering discipline or a small to medium group with multiple disciplines. Responsibilities include financial and performance accountability. Assure projects are completed within time and budget. Establish department goals and plans to meet goals. Forecast staffing requirements.

Overall manage the following Electrical Engineering discipline responsibilities:

  • Test and analyze failed parts.  Determine root cause of failure.  Propose design solutions to prevent the failures.  
  • Experience in Printed Circuit Board and peripheral design.
  • Experience and knowledge of Cadence CAD tool. 
  • Simulate, prototype, and test new and modified designs.
  • Statistically analyze data to prove the new design resolves failure modes and performs as intended.
  • Complete engineering change documentation, including formal verification. 
  • Work with system integration and other departments to ensure the design meets requirements.  Collaborate with operations to implement the new designs on a timely basis. 
  • Develop revolutionary and evolutionary product designs that align with business objectives.

Main Responsibilities

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Review status of projects; adjust resource allocations to meet project and business demands among areas. Prepare and manage budgets.
  • Propose actions to deal with variances.
  • Prepare SDPs and ODPs.
  • Develop policies and procedures to implement strategy in managed area.
  • Review design or process solutions to ensure overall functional requirements are met.
  • Maintain current technical skills and business function expertise.
  • Design and implement an organization that responds to the needs of the business and provides a meaningful work experience for employees.
  • Proactively identifies changes in technology within an area of expertise.
  • Influence peers and upper management to support successful implementation of changes.
  • Influence policies and events outside the immediate organization.
  • Exchanges information with external vendors or other Abbott sites.
  • Maintains contact with senior level management and all levels of employees within area or project responsibility for communication and problem resolution.
  • Analyzes Complex Designs or Processes: Evaluates and approves complex designs or processes across multiple disciplines ensuring functional requirements are met.
  • Reviews Plans in Functional Area: Reviews and approves standards; measures and controls procedures to effectively monitor performance. Reviews timelines for integration of electrical design of CPU PCB; ASICS design and PCB design (multiple subassemblies).
  • Coordinates Implementation of Multiple Projects Across Under Multiple Disciplines: Ensures multiple project milestones are met on time and within budget; mobilizes resources to address priorities within department.
  • Forecasts Staffing Requirements: Recruits; interviews; and selects candidates to fill openings. Identifies future staffing needs and associated position requirements.
  • Prepares and Manages Budgets: Establishes departmental; or project budgets; manages against approved budgets.
  • Provides input to yearly financial plan and quarterly updates.
  • Exchanges Information: Exchanges information with appropriate frequency and within a time frame to maximize its utility and promote cross functional collaboration; verifies that the message was understood.
  • Communicates obsolescence issues to avoid line shutdown. Adapts Information to Customer Needs: Delivers communications tailored to the needs of the receiver; speaks and writes clearly and concisely.
  • Makes Key Presentations: Delivers persuasive; and motivational presentations to influence employees; peers; regulatory agencies; and/or senior management. Articulates and translates department and/or functional strategy objectives.
  • Actively Listens: Listens actively to acquire information and understand the others viewpoint.
  • Builds Relationships: Develops an understanding of others’ needs; promoting common goals; and follows through on commitments. Seeks periodic feedback to ensure satisfaction is being met.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree within STEM field
  • Minimum 10 years of relative experience
  • 4+ years of supervisory or management experience
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVD and Biologics

Preferred Qualifications

  • Firmware development and in-circuit test fixture design experience is desirable.
  • Familiarity with RoHS, and REACH regulations is preferred.
  • Demonstrate competency in oral and written communication. Flexibility to work in an FDA regulated environment and understand the associated documentation requirements.

The base pay for this position is

$99,300.00 – $198,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
