Job Summary:

The Manager General Accounting is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the general ledger according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position manages and coaches a subordinate group. The Accounting Manager is responsible for some of the following areas, including, but not limited to:

• Prepares monthly financial reporting for executive management and board, and quarterly reporting for outside sources.
• Creates and maintains the intercompany process.
• Supports the budgeting process.
• Prepares and reviews account reconciliations.
• Works with external auditors.
• Manages projects pertaining to the general ledger.
• Accurate reporting of debt, investments, joint ventures, grants, Foundation, and payroll transactions.

Job Description:

  • Manage the process for accurate reporting of intercompany transactions, debt, investments, joint ventures, grants, Foundation, payroll transactions, and other areas as needed.
  • Manage and coach a subordinate group.   
  • Develop, promote and maintain professional relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Train, develop and coach, counsel, assign duties and work schedules.  Evaluate job performance and review performance appraisal with personnel.  Initiate or recommend necessary counseling, disciplinary actions, termination and commendatory actions.
  • Design/implement efficient services, offer revenue enhancements, monitor expenses, benchmark, encourage service excellence and provide effective communications.
  • Delegate and check daily assignments. Prioritize and delegate tasks and projects within the department. 
  • Work with the GL team to produce accurate, GAAP compliant, consolidated monthly financial reports for St. Elizabeth Hospitals and St. Elizabeth Physicians to be distributed to Senior Management and the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors.  This includes financial analysis, preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and preparation of reports to support the footnote disclosures. 
  • More comprehensive reports are prepared on a quarterly basis to meet bond compliance requirements.  
  • Assist with the quarterly reporting for outside sources and annual audit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Credentials, Licenses:

  • B.S. in Accounting or Finance

Specialized Knowledge: 

  • Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), financial statement preparation and analysis.  Knowledge of reconciliations and journal entries. 
  • Strong analytical skills paired with knowledge of financial analysis and business concepts. 
  • Experience with ERP systems, proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office applications. 

Kind and Length of Experience: 

  • 6 or more years of accounting and finance experience, including preparation or auditing of financial statements.
