The Manager, External Reporting & Technical Accounting, plays a critical oversight role in key finance processes including preparation and review of financial information to be released outside of the organization, accounting and reporting for non-routine and corporate functions, as well as impactful budgeting, forecasting, business analysis and M&A activities.  This position optimizes the data pipeline and bridges the gap between complex GAAP standards and scalable, automated reporting processes. This position is involved in various cross-functional activities and has significant exposure to business units and corporate leadership. 

What You'll Do:

  • Architect the preparation and review of financial statements, disclosures, and technical accounting memos ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards 
  • Oversee the accounting and forecasting for certain non-routine and corporate functions such as share-based compensation, leases, pensions, legal, impairment, etc.and regulatory requirements. 
  • Lead digital transformation by evaluating and continually improving accounting procedures, processes and systems to ensure standardized close process and efficient operations. 
  • Perform analysis of operational results and collaborate with various levels of business unit and corporate leadership to transform raw operational data into actionable insights, improving the speed and depth of business analysis.
  • Build and grow cross-functional relationships to collaboratively identify and resolve accounting-related matters throughout the business.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls by maintaining and improving systems, processes, and data.  
  • Mentor and develop team members into tech-savvy accounting and finance leaders capable of navigating a dynamic, data-centric environment.

What You Bring:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • Intellectual curiosity, strong initiative and leadership
  • Public accounting experience or equivalent foundation in SEC filings and GAAP 
  • Data and process-improvement minded
  • Financial and accounting aptitude, to analyze and evaluate financial information 
  • Proven track record to thrive in a dynamic environment under tight timelines and changing priorities
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally
  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational management skills
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred 

The starting budgeted pay range for this role will generally fall between $111,500.00 - $131,200.00 per year. Scotts will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.In addition to the determined base salary, this role is also incentive eligible under our corporate bonus programs.For remote roles where the final candidate resides in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, New York, Oregon or Washington, state required pay thresholds will be factored into base salary.
