Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

$109,300.00 - $180,200.00

What Is the Opportunity?

Under moderate supervision, the Manager, Corporate Real Estate reviews, analyzes, critiques, interprets, and negotiates real estate lease documents and related contracts, including lease amendments, expansions, surrenders, terminations, subleases, work letters, and commencement agreements. This role provides legal support on facility management and construction contracts and assists with corporate real estate transactions and strategic initiatives. This position does not lead others.

What Will You Do?

  • Contract Management
  • Review, draft, and negotiate lease contracts in accordance with Travelers corporate policies and contract requirements, working directly with legal counsel, landlords, asset managers, and real estate brokers
  • Independently draft and negotiate ancillary agreements supporting corporate real estate needs, including parking agreements, temporary space agreements, and various landlord-tenant side agreements
  • Analyze and negotiate legal terms in facility management and construction contracts to ensure alignment with Travelers contracting requirements and risk exposure mitigation
  • Finalize negotiated contracts for execution and prepare lease abstracts
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Regularly participate in meetings with Regional Vice Presidents, Regional Leasing Managers, brokers, contract administrators, property managers, Corporate Procurement, and internal/external counsel
  • Provide contract guidance and legal review support to contract administrators and project managers for construction agreements, project management agreements, and engineering agreements
  • Collaborate with Alliance Partners (real estate brokers) and provide guidance on Requests for Proposals, Letters of Understanding, and related issues concerning leasing initiatives
  • Legal Support
  • Interpret legal terms in lease and related documentation as requested, obtaining appropriate legal advice from internal and external counsel and subject matter experts
  • Support real estate acquisitions and dispositions in corporate deals, including conducting due diligence of real estate assets and reviewing related contracts
  • Research and coordinate with internal and external resources on legal issues related to landlord/tenant disputes, defaults, indemnification issues, and environmental concerns
  • Update corporate real estate contract templates and guidance in collaboration with legal counsel and stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • 5+ years of commercial leasing, drafting, and negotiating experience preferred
  • Excellent drafting, negotiating, and communication skills
  • Superior attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

What is a Must Have?

  • 5+ years of experience in commercial real estate law at an inhouse legal department or law firm, with focus on leasing and contract negotiation or equivalent experience.
