The Opportunity
We are seeking a Manager, Business Proposals to join our Firm. This position will be based in our New York office (hybrid) and work from 12 pm – 8 pm. The Manager supports the Firm’s pitch and proposals team for the litigation practices, creating tailored proposals, pitchbooks, and presentations for existing and prospective clients. Additionally, the manager ensures that content is crisp, substantive and impactful, and that changes and updates are reflected across all related marketing materials.
- Create tailored proposals, pitchbooks, qualification statements and presentations for existing and prospective clients with a focus on litigation practices, in collaboration with Skadden’s business development team.
- Serve as a point of contact for litigation partners and senior department staff regarding the writing, production and refinement of business development materials.
- Ensure consistency in messaging, alignment with strategic goals and adherence to deadlines for all litigation-related business development materials.
- Organize and prioritize multiple assignments related to litigation pitches while maintaining accountability for deliverables.
- Maintain high standards of quality and professionalism in all litigation business development efforts.
- Work in a hands-on capacity on complex litigation pitches and RFPs; write and edit cover letters and other copy for litigation proposals.
- Craft new materials based on the Firm’s litigation business needs and client/prospect requests.
- With the assistant director, business proposals, provide guidance to the global pitch team at the outset of litigation RFPs, identifying the best approach to first drafts and offering insights into client/prospect, precedent materials and process.
- Share market and institutional knowledge specific to litigation with the pitch team.
- Develop and maintain tailored, creative pitch templates for optimal content presentation in litigation proposals.
- Oversee maintenance/updating of shared knowledge resources (e.g., RFP Language Collection, InterAction Pitch Tracker) for the global pitch team with a focus on litigation content; identify opportunities for new, more efficient systems.
- Serves as backup for the proposals team as needed.
- Recommend guidelines and practices to promote efficiency, effectiveness, excellent customer service and improved employee relations, in alignment with the Firm’s Core Values.
- Develop and communicate departmental guidelines and procedures with respect to new business proposals for litigation practices.
- Ensure accurate and timely responses to requests for departmental services related to litigation.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective work relationships with others.
- Manage Firm resources responsibly.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Litigation Expertise: Proven ability to craft persuasive pitches, proposals and RFP responses tailored to litigation clients with strong knowledge of industry trends and client needs.
- Experience Presentation: Skilled in leveraging and presenting the Firm’s litigation case histories, attorney credentials and matter experience in a compelling, client-focused manner.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Firm software (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and able to quickly learn litigation-specific tools (e.g., LexMachina).
- Superior Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex litigation concepts into clear, persuasive messaging.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous in preparing, reviewing and editing litigation proposals, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Analytical and Strategic Thinking: Strong analytical skills to identify opportunities, differentiators and develop strategic approaches for litigation business development.
- Teamwork: Collaborating with litigation partners and colleagues.
- Project and Time Management: Ability to manage multiple, deadline-driven projects, prioritize tasks and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Discretion and Judgment: Handles sensitive litigation matters with confidentiality and sound judgment.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adjust work hours to meet business and client needs.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum of Five years related experience in a law firm or professional services environment with significant experience supporting litigation practices.

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.

$200,000 - $220,000
