The Manager, Alumni Engagement plays a pivotal role in strengthening lifelong relationships between UBC Sauder and its global alumni community. Working closely with the Associate Director, Alumni Engagement, this position develops and executes strategies that connect alumni to one another, to the school, and to opportunities that advance UBC Sauder’s strategic priorities. The role leads key alumni engagement initiatives across the Lower Mainland, throughout British Columbia, and in national and international markets.
This position collaborates extensively across the Development and Alumni Engagement portfolio and with internal and external partners to identify, cultivate, and steward alumni leaders and volunteers. The Manager oversees high-impact programs, events, and communications that enhance alumni engagement, supports faculty and unit partnerships, and ensures that alumni insights and contributions are integrated into the school’s broader goals. Through relationship building, strategic planning, and team leadership, the Manager helps cultivate a vibrant and inclusive alumni community that contributes to the long-term success of UBC Sauder.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Associate Director, Alumni Engagement. Is a part of the Faculty’s Development & Alumni Engagement team and a dotted line into alumni UBC.
Works closely with the school’s faculty, employees and student leadership, student and alumni groups representing the school and colleagues in the alumni UBC office. May involve the President’s Office, Vice-Presidential Offices, Ceremonies, Public Affairs, and other senior administrators, as appropriate.
Contacts alumni, volunteers, donors, external community and professional organizations.
Work Performed
Develops and implements strategic alumni engagement plans in partnership with faculty and university stakeholders.
Builds and maintains relationships with alumni, volunteer leaders, and external organizations to strengthen community ties.
Maintains a strong network of alumni to recommend for various initiatives, including speaking engagements, donor pipeline, volunteer opportunities, marketing profiles, awards, high profile events, and emergent opportunities.
Conducts research to ensure alumni outreach and offerings are personalized and relevant.
Leads high impact alumni events that engage priority alumni groups and advance school partnerships and goals.
Oversees the unit’s global alumni engagement strategies in alignment with broader school and university goals, collaborating with other units and leaders as appropriate.
Cultivates international alumni communities and strengthens UBC Sauder’s global presence through regional initiatives and partnerships.
Partners with faculty and employees to promote and expand alumni volunteer opportunities.
Ensures alumni engagement strategies align with development initiatives.
Develops communication strategies and creates content for alumni outreach channels.
Serves as a mentor and coach for direct reports, supporting their growth and continued development.
Works with alumni UBC and University partners to ensure alignment with school needs and effective use of resources.
Maintains accurate alumni data and supports reporting to meet annual engagement goals.
Collaborates with alumni UBC and University partners on high impact events and activities locally and regionally.
Oversees program budgets, ensuring effective use of resources, cost efficiency, and alignment with strategic priorities.
Integrates school milestones into alumni engagement strategy and programming.
Strengthens student-alumni connections through programs that enhance community building.
Develops and monitors key performance indicators for alumni engagement work.
Tracks, reports, and makes recommendations on return on investment of programming.
Leads the school’s alumni affinity strategy.
Work closely with faculty partners to develop and implement joint initiatives, including but not limited to Recruitment and Admissions, Business Career Centre, Office of Student Academic Services, Marketing and Communications, faculty members, and others as appropriate.
Oversees and ensures the timely and accurate transfer of information into the database.
Performs other related duties as required, especially those related to the planning and execution of special events and/or activities.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Manager oversees many of the school’s most visible interactions with alumni, thus errors in judgment could have far-reaching and long-term financial and non-financial consequences. For example, the Manager will help identify and nurture relationships with influential alumni who may be approached by the faculty for key leadership roles.
Supervision Received
Reports to Associate Director, Alumni Engagement. Works independently with general direction from the Associate Director. Work is reviewed in terms of soundness of judgement and attainment of objectives.

Minimum Qualifications
University degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of three years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
