About the Role
We are seeking a Maintenance Planner to join our team at Portland Aluminium.
As a Planner at our Portland Smelter, you are responsible for maximising maintenance and process effectiveness and efficiency by planning all scheduled activities prior to the commencement of a job. This involves safely integrating manufacturing and financial requirements into an effective Maintenance Plan.
The Maintenance Planner strives to continuously improve productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through effective planning and co-ordination. Other responsibilities include:
- Developing the weekly plan and facilitating weekly planning meetings in line with standardised Alcoa planning processes.
- Supporting the daily planning process and making information available to ensure successful work execution in a timely and effective manner as well as capturing outcomes.
- Ensuring people, parts and processes are available for maintenance activities in a timely manner.
- Contributing to maintenance efficiency and effectiveness by participating in reviews of major activities, seeking improvements, reporting on such activities and initiating action where appropriate.
- Assisting in financial budget preparation, forecasting and maintenance strategies; ensuring long-term activity schedules are accurate and up to date.
Other key responsibilities include:
- Applying your problem solving and analysing skills to isolate, diagnose and resolve equipment/process related problems;
- Utilizing core operating principles and processes to define failure modes, and understand mean time to failure for Powerhouse systems;
- Actively direct and participate in planned outages and performance improvement programs;
- Oversee Powerhouse Mechanical Maintenance Crews; and
- Achieve sustained improvements through leadership of the problem-solving process and application of business systems.

What you can bring to the role
- A Mechanical (Fitting & Turning) or Electrical Trade Certificate or Degree is advantageous however applicants with planning experience desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills that enable you to establish relationships and communicate with ease, at all levels of the organisation.
- Dedication to environment, health and safety in the workplace and the ability to actively contribute to safety improvement initiatives.
- Excellent attention to detail, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to co-ordinate multiple project/planning initiatives within the maintenance group.
- Experience in heavy industry and the use of computer-based maintenance systems is advantageous.
